ਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਘਰੁ ੬ ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਸੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਬਿਨਉ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਮਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਿ ਤਾਰਨ ਤਰਨ ਹਰਿ ਅਵਰਿ ਜੰਜਾਲ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਾਹੂ ਨ ਕਾਮ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਵਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸੇਵਾ ਇਹੁ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਨ ਲਾਈਐ ਹੀਤੁ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਬੀਤੁ ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਬਾਰ ਓਹੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਚਾਲੈ ॥ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਤੂ ਆਰਾਧ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਾਧ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਛੂਟੈ ॥੨॥ ਗਹੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸਰਨ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਕਮਲ ਚਰਨ ਅਵਰ ਆਸ ਕਛੁ ਪਟਲੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ॥ ਸੋਈ ਭਗਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਤਪਾ ਸੋਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੩॥੧॥੨੯॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣੋ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਕਿਸੇ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ (ਹਰਿ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੇ) ਕੰਮ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਲਈ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ। (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ) ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੰਜਾਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਣਗੇ। ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼-ਰੂਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਹੀ (ਅਸਲ) ਜੀਵਨ ਹੈ-ਇਹ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ (ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਂਇਆਂ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ। ਉਹ (ਧਨ-ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ। ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ (ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰ) , ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ (ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ) ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਤੇਰੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਬੰਧਨ ਮੁੱਕ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਫੜ, (ਆਪਣੇ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨ (ਵਸਾ) (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ, ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੂੰਢਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਗਤ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਗਿਆਨਵਾਨ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ-ਅਭਿਆਸੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਤਪਸ੍ਵੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।੧।੨੯।

ONE UNIVERSAL CREATOR GOD. BY THE GRACE OF THE TRUE GURU:

Listen, O Dear Beloved Saints, to my prayer. Without the Lord, no one is liberated. || Pause || O mind, do only deeds of purity; the Lord is the only boat to carry you across. Other entanglements shall be of no use to you. True living is serving the Divine, Supreme Lord God; the Guru has imparted this teaching to me. || 1 || Do not fall in love with trivial things; in the end, they shall not go along with you. Worship and adore the Lord with your mind and body, O Beloved Saint of the Lord; in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall be released from bondage. || 2 || In your heart, hold fast to the Sanctuary of the lotus feet of the Supreme Lord God; do not place your hopes in any other support. He alone is a devotee, spiritually wise, a meditator, and a penitent, O Nanak, who is blessed by the Lord’s Mercy. || 3 || 1 || 29 ||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੩ ॥ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਜਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਲਿਖਿਆਸੁ ॥ ਮੋਹ ਠਗਉਲੀ ਪਾਈਅਨੁ ਵਿਸਰਿਆ ਗੁਣਤਾਸੁ ॥

(ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ ਜੋ (ਸੰਸਕਾਰ-ਰੂਪ ਲੇਖ) ਲਿਖਿਆ (ਭਾਵ, ਉੱਕਰਿਆ) ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਲਿਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ (ਜ਼ਰੂਰ) ਕਮਾਉਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ; (ਉਸ ਲੇਖ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ) ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਠਗਬੂਟੀ (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹਰੀ ਵਿੱਸਰ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

ਮਤੁ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਵਦਾ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਮੁਇਆਸੁ ॥ ਜਿਨੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਸੇ ਬਹਣਿ ਨ ਮਿਲਨੀ ਪਾਸਿ ॥ (ਉਸ) ਸੰਸਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਜੀਊਂਦਾ ਨਾ ਸਮਝੋ (ਜੋ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਮੁਇਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ; ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਬਹਿਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।

ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਬਹੁ ਅਤਿ ਘਣਾ ਪੁਤੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਨ ਸਾਥਿ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਸਿ ॥ ਲੋਕਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਮੁਹੁ ਕਾਲਾ ਹੋਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਉਭੇ ਸਾਸ ॥ ਮਨਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਕੋ ਨ ਵਿਸਹੀ ਚੁਕਿ ਗਇਆ ਵੇਸਾਸੁ ॥ ਉਹ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਮੁਏ ਪਏ ਸਨ, ਉਹ) ਪੁੱਤ੍ਰ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਏਗਾ; ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਕਾਲਾ ਹੋਇਆ (ਭਾਵ, ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਏ) ਤੇ ਹਾਹੁਕੇ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ; ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਸਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਤਬਾਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਅਗਲਾ ਜਿਨਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੧॥ ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।

ਮਃ ੩ ॥ ਸੇ ਸੈਣ ਸੇ ਸਜਣਾ ਜਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲਹਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੇ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋਏ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਾ ਨਿਵਾਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਭਾਵਿਕ ਹੀ) ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਭਲੇ ਲੋਕ ਹਨ ਤੇ (ਸਾਡੇ) ਸਾਥੀ ਹਨ; ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸੱਚੇ ਹਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਲਗੇ ਸਜਣ ਨ ਆਖੀਅਹਿ ਜਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਵੇਕਾਰ ॥ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖੀਦਾ ਜੋ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਆਪ ਸੁਆਰਥੀ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਨ ਸਕਹਿ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਤਲਬ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ (ਹੋਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਵਾਰ ਸਕਦੇ; (ਪਰ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਕੀਹ ਦੋਸ਼?) (ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ) ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਕਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ (ਸੰਸਕਾਰ-ਰੂਪ ਲੇਖ) ਕਮਾਉਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਮਿਟਾਉਣ-ਜੋਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ।੧।

ਪਉੜੀ ॥ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਆਪਿ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਆਪਿ ਸਿਰਜਿਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥

ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਰਚ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਖੇਡ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੈ; ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣ ਬਣਾਏ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਵਧਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।

ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇਆ ॥ ਜਿਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ॥ (ਇਸ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਉਪਜੇ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ (ਲੱਗਿਆਂ) (ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ) ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਜੰਮਣਾ ਮਰਨਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਹਰੀ ਆਪ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ (ਇਹ) ਸਮਝ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।

ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਘੁਮਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

(ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਵਾਰਨੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।੩।

SHALOK, THIRD MEHL:

He acts according to pre-ordained destiny, written by the Creator Himself. Emotional attachment has drugged him, and he has forgotten the Lord, the treasure of virtue. Don’t think that he is alive in the world — he is dead, through the love of duality. Those who do not meditate on the Lord, as Gurmukh, are not permitted to sit near the Lord. They suffer the most horrible pain and suffering, and neither their sons nor their wives go along with them. Their faces are blackened among men, and they sigh in deep regret. No one places any reliance in the self-willed manmukhs; trust in them is lost. O Nanak, the Gurmukhs live in absolute peace; the Naam, the Name of the Lord, abides within them. || 1 || THIRD MEHL: They alone are relatives, and they alone are friends, who, as Gurmukh, join together in love. Night and day, they act according to the True Guru’s Will; they remain absorbed in the True Name. Those who are attached to the love of duality are not called friends; they practice egotism and corruption. The self-willed manmukhs are selfish; they cannot resolve anyone’s affairs. O Nanak, they act according to their pre-ordained destiny; no one can erase it. || 2 || PAUREE: You Yourself created the world, and You Yourself arranged the play of it. You Yourself created the three qualities, and fostered emotional attachment to Maya. He is called to account for his deeds done in egotism; he continues coming and going in reincarnation. The Guru instructs those whom the Lord Himself blesses with Grace. I am a sacrifice to my Guru; forever and ever, I am a sacrifice to Him. || 3||

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ ਹਮਰੀ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਗਣੀਆ ਕਾਈ ਅਪਣਾ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ॥ ਹਾਥ ਦੇਇ ਰਾਖੇ ਕਰਿ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣਿ ॥੧॥ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਦ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਣ ॥ ਬੰਧੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮੇਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹੋਈ ਸਰਬ ਕਲਿਆਣ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਜੀਉ ਪਾਇ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਦਿਤਾ ਪੈਨਣੁ ਖਾਣੁ ॥ ਅਪਣੇ ਦਾਸ ਕੀ ਆਪਿ ਪੈਜ ਰਾਖੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥੨॥੧੬॥੪੪॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਕੁਕਰਮਾਂ ਵਲ ਪਰਤ ਰਹੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ) ਮੇਰੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ (ਤੇ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਸਾਰੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਏ।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਮੰਦ-ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ। ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੁੱਢ-ਕਦੀਮਾਂ ਦੇ (ਪਿਆਰ ਵਾਲੇ) ਸੁਭਾਉ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਹ, ਸਗੋਂ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ, ਸਾਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ (ਸਾਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ) ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਜਿਸ ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ) ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਜਿੰਦ ਪਾ ਕੇ (ਸਾਡਾ) ਸਰੀਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜਾ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਸਾਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਤੇ ਪੁਸ਼ਾਕ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਕਾਰ-ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ (ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ) ਆਪ ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ) ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।੨।੧੬।੪੪।

SORAT’H, FIFTH MEHL:

He did not take my accounts into account; such is His forgiving nature. He gave me His hand, and saved me and made me His own; forever and ever, I enjoy His Love. || 1 || The True Lord and Master is forever merciful and forgiving. My Perfect Guru has bound me to Him, and now, I am in absolute ecstasy. || Pause || The One who fashioned the body and placed the soul within, who gives you clothing and nourishment — He Himself preserves the honor of His slaves. ਰਾਗੁ ਧਨਾਸਿਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਘਰੁ ੪ ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ਹਮ ਭੀਖਕ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੂ ਨਿਜ ਪਤਿ ਹੈ ਦਾਤਾ ॥ ਹੋਹੁ ਦੈਆਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਮੰਗਤ ਜਨ ਕੰਉ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਉ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਹੰਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ਸਾਚੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਟਹੁ ॥ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਏਕੋ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਫੇਰ ਪਏ ਕਿਰਪਨ ਕਉ ਅਬ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਜੈ ॥ ਹੋਹੁ ਦਇਆਲ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਐਸੀ ਬਖਸ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥੨॥ ਭਨਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਰਮ ਪਟ ਖੂਲ੍ਹ੍ਹੇ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥ ਸਾਚੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਹੈ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੩॥੧॥੯॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੈਂ; ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ (ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ (ਦਰ ਦੇ) ਮੰਗਤੇ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸੁਤੰਤਰ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਹ (ਤਾ ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ।੧।

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹੇ ਨੂੰ (ਹੁਣ ਤਕ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਗੇੜ ਪੈ ਚੁਕੇ ਹਨ, ਹੁਣ ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ। ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਭਰਮ ਦੇ ਪਰਦੇ ਖੁਲ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ) ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਲਗਨ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਤੀਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।੧।੯।

O Lord God, please bless me with Your Mercy, and pour Your Name into my mouth, even if for only an instant. || 1 || Without the Lord, I cannot live for even a second. Like the addict who dies without his drug, I die without the Lord. || Pause || You, Lord, are the deepest, most unfathomable ocean; I cannot find even a trace of Your limits. ONE UNIVERSAL CREATOR GOD. BY THE GRACE OF THE TRUE GURU:

You always preserve the honor of Your devotees, O Dear Lord; You have protected them from the very beginning of time. You protected Your servant Prahlaad, O Dear Lord, and annihilated Harnaakhash. The Gurmukhs place their faith in the Dear Lord, but the self-willed manmukhs are deluded by doubt. || 1 || O Dear Lord, this is Your Glory. You preserve the honor of Your devotees, O Lord Master; Your devotees seek Your Sanctuary. || Pause || The Messenger of Death cannot touch Your devotees; death cannot even approach them. The Name of the Lord alone abides in their minds; through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, they find liberation. Wealth and all the spiritual powers of the Siddhis fall at the feet of the Lord’s devotees; they obtain peace and poise from the Guru. || 2 || The self-willed manmukhs have no faith; they are filled with greed and self-interest. They are not Gurmukh — they do not understand the Word of the Shabad in their hearts; they do not love the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Their masks of falsehood and hypocrisy shall fall off; the self-willed manmukhs speak with insipid words. || 3 || You are pervading through Your devotees, O Dear God; through Your devotees, You are known.All the people are enticed by Maya; they are Yours, Lord — You alone are the Architect of Destiny. Overcoming my egotism and quieting the desires within my mind, I have come to realize the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. || 4 || God automatically does the work of those who love the Name of the Lord. By Guru’s Grace, he ever dwells in their minds, and He resolves all their affairs. Whoever challenges them is destroyed; they have the Lord God as their Savior. || 5 || Without serving the True Guru, no one finds the Lord; the self-willed manmukhs die crying out in pain. They come and go, and find no place of rest; in pain and suffering, they perish. But one who becomes Gurmukh drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar, and is easily absorbed in the True Name. || 6 || Without serving the True Guru, one cannot escape reincarnation, even by performing numerous rituals. Those who read the Vedas, and argue and debate without the Lord, lose their honor. True is the True Guru, and True is the Word of His Bani; in the Guru’s Sanctuary, one is saved. || 7 || Those whose minds are filled with the Lord are judged as true in the Court of the Lord; they are hailed as true in the True Court. Their praises echo throughout the ages, and no one can erase them. Nanak is forever a sacrifice to those who enshrine the Lord within their hearts. || 8 || 1 ||

ਵਡਹੰਸੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ੨ ॥ ਮੋਰੀ ਰੁਣ ਝੁਣ ਲਾਇਆ ਭੈਣੇ ਸਾਵਣੁ ਆਇਆ ॥ ਤੇਰੇ ਮੁੰਧ ਕਟਾਰੇ ਜੇਵਡਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਲੋਭੀ ਲੋਭ ਲੁਭਾਇਆ ॥ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਸਨ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਖੰਨੀਐ ਵੰਞਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੋ ॥ ਜਾ ਤੂ ਤਾ ਮੈ ਮਾਣੁ ਕੀਆ ਹੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੇਹਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਣੋ ॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭੈਣ! ਸਾਵਨ (ਦਾ ਮਹੀਨਾ) ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ (ਸਾਵਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਾਲੀਆਂ ਘਟਾਂ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ) ਮੋਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਿੱਠੇ ਗੀਤ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ (ਤੇ ਪੈਲਾਂ ਪਾਣੀਆਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ) । (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰੀ ਇਹ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਮੈਂ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਵਾਸਤੇ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਕਟਾਰ ਹੈ (ਜੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਬਿਰਹੋਂ ਦੀ ਚੋਟ ਲਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ) ਫਾਹੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਣ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਹ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਖਿੱਚੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ) । (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਤੇਰੇ ਇਸ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਤੋਂ ਜੋ ਹੁਣ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਮੈਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ (ਤੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੂਪ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਹਾਂ। (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਚੂੰਕਿ ਤੂੰ (ਇਸ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ) ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਆਖਣ ਦਾ ਹੌਸਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਇਹ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੀ ਹੈ) । ਜੇ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਨ ਦਿੱਸੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਆਖਣ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਹ ਸਵਾਦ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਏ ਕਿ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਹੈ?

ਰਾਗੁ ਧਨਾਸਿਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਘਰੁ ੪ ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ਹਮ ਭੀਖਕ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੂ ਨਿਜ ਪਤਿ ਹੈ ਦਾਤਾ ॥ ਹੋਹੁ ਦੈਆਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਮੰਗਤ ਜਨ ਕੰਉ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਉ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਹੰਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ਸਾਚੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਟਹੁ ॥ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਏਕੋ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਫੇਰ ਪਏ ਕਿਰਪਨ ਕਉ ਅਬ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਜੈ ॥ ਹੋਹੁ ਦਇਆਲ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਐਸੀ ਬਖਸ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥੨॥ ਭਨਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਰਮ ਪਟ ਖੂਲ੍ਹ੍ਹੇ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥ ਸਾਚੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਹੈ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੩॥੧॥੯॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਹੈਂ; ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ (ਤੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ (ਦਰ ਦੇ) ਮੰਗਤੇ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸੁਤੰਤਰ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਹ (ਤਾ ਕਿ) ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਰਹਾਂ।੧।

ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹੇ ਨੂੰ (ਹੁਣ ਤਕ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਗੇੜ ਪੈ ਚੁਕੇ ਹਨ, ਹੁਣ ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ। ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਭਰਮ ਦੇ ਪਰਦੇ ਖੁਲ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ) ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ) ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਲਗਨ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਤੀਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੩।੧।੯।

ONE UNIVERSAL CREATOR GOD. BY THE GRACE OF THE TRUE GURU:

I am just a poor beggar of Yours; You are Your Own Lord Master, You are the Great Giver. Be Merciful, and bless me, a humble beggar, with Your Name, so that I may forever remain imbued with Your Love. || 1 || I am a sacrifice to Your Name, O True Lord. The One Lord is the Cause of causes; there is no other at all. || 1 || Pause || I was wretched; I wandered through so many cycles of reincarnation. Now, Lord, please bless me with Your Grace. Be merciful, and grant me the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan; please grant me such a gift. || 2 || Prays Nanak, the shutters of doubt have been opened wide; by Guru’s Grace, I have come to know the Lord. I am filled to overflowing with true love; my mind is pleased and appeased by the True Guru. || 3 || 1 || 9 ||

WADAHANS, THIRD MEHL:

O my mind, the world comes and goes in birth and death; only the True Name shall emancipate you in the end. When the True Lord Himself grants forgiveness, then one does not have to enter the cycle of reincarnation again. He does not have to enter the cycle of reincarnation again, and he is emancipated in the end; as Gurmukh, he obtains glorious greatness. Imbued with love for the True Lord, he is intoxicated with celestial bliss, and he remains absorbed in the Celestial Lord. The True Lord is pleasing to his mind; he enshrines the True Lord in his mind. Attuned to the Word of the Shabad, he is emancipated in the end. O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam, merge in the True Lord; they are not cast into the terrifying world-ocean again. || 1 || Emotional attachment to Maya is total madness; through the love of duality, one is ruined. Mother and father — all are subject to this love; in this love, they are entangled. They are entangled in this love, on account of their past actions, which no one can erase. The One who created the Universe, beholds it; no other is as great as He. The blind, self-willed manmukh is consumed by his burning rage; without the Word of the Shabad, peace does not come. O Nanak, without the Name, everyone is deluded, ruined by emotional attachment to Maya. || 2 || Seeing this world on fire, I have hurried to the Sanctuary of the Lord. I offer my prayer to the Perfect Guru: please save me, and bless me with Your glorious greatness. Preserve me in Your Sanctuary, and bless me with the glorious greatness of the Lord’s Name; there is no other Giver as great as You. Those who are engaged in serving You are very fortunate; throughout the ages, they know the One Lord. You may practice celibacy, truth, austere self-discipline and rituals, but without the Guru, you shall not be emancipated. O Nanak, he alone understands the Word of the Shabad, who goes and seeks the Lord’s Sanctuary. || 3 || That understanding, imparted by the Lord, wells up; there is no other understanding. Deep within, and beyond as well, You alone exist, O Lord; You Yourself impart this understanding. One whom He Himself blesses with this understanding, does not love any other. As Gurmukh, he tastes the subtle essence of the Lord. In the True Court, he is forever True; with love, he chants the True Word of the Shabad. Within his home, he finds the home of his own inner being; the True Guru blesses him with greatness. O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam find the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence; their understanding is true and approved. || 4 || 6 ||

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ ਜਿਉ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਨੀਰੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਤਿਉ ਨਾਮੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਲੁ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਈ ॥ ਹਉ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਗਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਜਿਉ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਲਲਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਪਿਆਸ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜੇ ਹਰਿਆ ਭਾਇ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥੨॥ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਖੇ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਡੋਲਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਆਵੈ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਈ ॥੩॥ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੪॥੮॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ) ਮੇਹਰ ਦਾ ਜਲ ਦੇਹ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਹ। ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ (ਹੀ) ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ) ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਠੰਡ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਰਹਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੱਛੀ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਆ ਗਈ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਵਰਖਾ-ਜਲ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਪੀਹਾ ਵਿਲਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਰਖਾ ਦੀ ਬੂੰਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰੇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਟਦੀ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਤਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਦਸੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਡੋਲਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮਨ ਦਾ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਇਹ) ਸਜ਼ਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।੩।

ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ (ਆਪ) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰੇਂ, ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ। (ਜਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਦ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਤ੍ਰੁੱਠਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰੇਹ ਬੁਝਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।੮।

SORAT’H, FOURTH MEHL:

The inner depths of my mind are pierced by love for the Lord; I cannot live without the Lord. Just as the fish dies without water, I die without the Lord’s Name. || 1 || O my God, please bless me with the water of Your Name. I beg for Your Name, deep within myself, day and night; through the Name, I find peace. || Pause || The song-bird cries out for lack of water — without water, its thirst cannot be quenched. The Gurmukh obtains the water of celestial bliss, and is rejuvenated, blossoming forth through the blessed Love of the Lord. || 2 || The self-willed manmukhs are hungry, wandering around in the ten directions; without the Name, they suffer in pain. They are born, only to die, and enter into reincarnation again; in the Court of the Lord, they are punished. || 3 || But if the Lord shows His Mercy, then one comes to sing His Glorious Praises; deep within the nucleus of his own self, he finds the sublime essence of the Lord’s elixir. The Lord has become Merciful to meek Nanak, and through the Word of the Shabad, his desires are quenched. || 4 || 8 ||
