Chicago Legend Dj Persist Drops by to give us a Latin Recap with some of the years hottest tracks

Born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, DJ Persist has always been around music. His father was in a cambia band and was raised listening to house music. He started djing in high school doing house parties. While attending University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign he started djing at bars and clubs. Moving back to Chicago he started working the Latin club scene as a main DJ for the club promotor, V5. Friends started to getting married an age started to get requested to be their DJ. He has been djing weddings full time as of 2010. He considers himself and open format DJ but has expanded to venture to photo booths, photography, and videography.

Duo DJ DEX and Sebastian Vargas better known as DOWNLow Drop a guest mix on this weeks Show

A couple of jumping jacks and round of tequila shots; that’s all it takes to get Dex and Sebastian Vargas to throw down on each set, from chill vibes to party grooves, they came together to form the DJ and production duo DownLow.

These two guys from Chicago met in 2013 in the Pink Noise warehouse where Sebastian worked, and where Dex applied for employment. While working together they noticed a lot of similar interests, and started working on some music together. Finally in July 2018, Dex and Sebastian Vargas did their live performance debut in Houston at the NRG Park as DownLow.

The duo’s open-mindedness is closely tied to their Chicago roots, as they were influenced by house, urban and Latin sounds equally. It’s not a genre thing, it’s a music thing, and DownLowprojects that passion to the dance floor. 

Now, the guys are prepping a batch of new releases, dj edits , remixes and bootlegs. In true “open-format” style, Dex says of their new material, “there’s a little bit of everything with some crazy surprises.”

DownLow are the next big thing, ready to make an impact in the music scene as well as in the nightlife scene. The one thing that matters for this duo is how they make you feel when they play.

The story of how I became a DJ... Well it was something inevitable.

My oldest brother is a DJ. Growing up and listening to him practice in the basement was something I looked forward to almost every day. The music that he played was simply amazing. Being 8 years old and constantly listening to his blends made me want to be a DJ. Not only did I enjoy listening to him practice, but I also enjoyed hearing the DJ's on the Radio. I remember grabbing my mom's boombox and listening to the radio until I fell asleep.

My dream of becoming a DJ became a reality at the age of 16 when I mixed at my first nightclub. Ever since, I've had the privilege to open for a lot of Mexican Regional artists such as Banda MS, Ramon Ayala, Banda El Recodo, and La Banda Jerez just to name a few, as well as Freestyle legend Rockell.
