This month the gurls briefly speak on facing their fears. Rather it’s their career endeavors or taking part in risky adventures, at some point you have to run towards what scares you. In life there’s turbulence, some people experience it worst than others. What matters is how you overcome the waves and coast through it while feeling angst. You have to be confident in knowing you’ll land on your feet. The stories shared amongst the gurls are testimonies that proves the universe will work in your favor, just have to trust it.

After five months of technical woes, we’re FINALLY kicking off the first live guest interview with celebrity hairstylist, Natalie Birdsong! The gurls are elated for you all to hear Natalie’s insight on entrepreneurship, personal, spiritual and financial growth. The gurls are still in awe from listening to Natalie’s transparent journey. Her energy is light and like a breath of fresh air. The humbleness and down to earth energy radiates as she shares business tips, pivoting from the corporate world to the beauty industry and her red carpet moments. She shared a wealth of knowledge on how to be strategic with any entrepreneurial endeavors so there’s something for everyone to take note of.

The gurls made a pact to retell these stories and learn where they come from in honor of their grandmother, Audrey. Overtime they’ve been digging through archived photos, articles, and connecting with family to piece together their lineage. Man, what a year. We’ve experienced so much in 2023 with pivoting careers and navigating through grief. EP. 10 Marcus & Branden - American Dreamin’ 

We interviewed Patrice’s brother, Branden and her husband, Marcus. Although they have different lifestyles, these two men have so much in common. From household dynamics, losing a parent at an early age to growing up in the Midwest where resources were limited and adversity was at the forefront in Black communities. And still, they’ve prevailed! 

These two men have a wealth of knowledge. From college grads to businessmen navigating through fatherhood. Not only do they share advice on how to pivot and get ahead, they express vulnerability with sharing their coming of age experiences.

What's good Fanny Packs! The gurls discuss a common theme that they're now fighting against, perfection. There's other themes that continuously reappear in their lives: peace, power, progression, productivity and pivoting; which supports the well known phrase "pushing P. '' - well their remix definition that is. Are there areas in your life where you too feel the need to push away perfection, relinquish power, push in the direction of having a peace of mind while simultaneously breaking away from productivity? Whelp, you're in the right space for that discourse. Pushing P. is also a way of the gurls saying they're pushing away false ideals while unlearning old habits. In honor of National Minority Mental Health Month the gurls have a discussion with Sunne Perry-Bailey and discuss the importance of self-care, self-love, and self-acceptance. Sunne aka The Whole Healing Homie is definitely a person you should get to know. As a wife and a mom of two she does it all. Sunne is a licensed clinical social worker, clinical substance counselor and CEO. 

Sunne breaks down her definition of healing and shares her self-acclaimed acronym she created, H.E.A.L: Honesty, Examination, Action, and Love. Sunne emphasizes the need for self-respect and detachment when experiencing burnout due to lack of systems and resources. She shares her journey with creating Heal, Girl Heal; how she too seeks guidance as a healer and counselor, advocating for therapy (in religious spaces), mental and physical health awareness, setting boundaries, implementing different techniques to evolve, where to find resources for mental health needs, working in the psychiatric unit, and overcoming adversity during her entrepreneurial pivot. 

Additionally Sunne emphasizes the importance of reaching out to someone if they have suicidal thoughts or feelings of not wanting to live, as it does not mean they will lose their rights. The gurls interview CC to get a better understanding of the POV of healthcare as a nurse. CC discusses daily life and hardships nurses face in the medical field. As a healthcare advocate, she’s striving to create balance with taking care of herself and patients, discusses room for improvement within the healthcare industry, and vulnerably shares her own health concerns. CC has been a nurse for 7 years and shares great insight on what specific steps both nurses and patients can take for advocating against discriminatory behavior. She concludes the interview with sharing what ways healthcare professionals (including herself) can improve their wellbeing. 

The gurls discuss their health journey while learning the importance of advocacy in the medical industry. They share their experiences with gluten and how extreme a gluten allergy can be. The link between food affecting our mood, energy, and causing depression was briefly discussed. Personal stories are shared amongst the two and how they constantly felt dismissed by healthcare professionals with micro-aggressions and bad bedside manners. Patrice tells a detailed story about her experience with giving birth to her son. She describes how her doctors were too rough with her body and gave her too much medication. The gurls share the tragedy of Patrice's dad being neglected in a nursing home which led to his fatality. Aniyah shares stories that dates back to her teen years to her early adult years in regards to her experiences with discriminatory behavior from healthcare professionals. Although these topics are heavy, you can always count on the gurls to bring a little light and laughter into the conversation.
