Das geplante Megaprojekt, der sogenannte Tren Maya auf der halbinsel Yukatan im Süden Mexikos, soll sich über 1500 Kilometer ziehen. Von der Touristenstadt Cancun an der Karibikküste durch den letzten Urwald Mexikos, bis zu den Ruinen von Palenke. Neben dem sogenannten Tren Maya, ist unter anderem eine Autobahn, sowie der Bau mehrerer Großstädte geplant. Die Zersörung der Natur und der Lebensgrundlage der bäuerlichen indigenen Bevölkerungwäre eine soziale und ökologische Katastrophe.
