In a classic Liberian folktale, King Lion wants to adopt a daughter or son to be the princess or prince. But the king won't make it easy because the one who wins the crown will have to be very clever. Can Brother Elephant, Miss Monkey, or any of the animals who come to his party pass the test and win the contest? Well, I'm not gonna tell you! You will have to listen to the story to find out who will pass the test and become the prince or princess!

Poet and author, Paul Laurence Dunbar loved children, nature, and people. He wrote poetry, short stories, and musical plays using the natural language of people in northern and southern America. The Sparrow is a tribute to his love of birds and The Farm Child's Lullaby is a sweet goodnight poem to children during the cold winter. #Dunbar150 is a tribute to Dunbar's literary genius as his image is on a US postage stamp, a commemorative US gold coin, and a driver's license plate in the state of Ohio.

Do you know about Martin Luther King Jr.? If you do or you don't, feel free to listen to this original story poem written by Charlotte Blake Alston, an internationally acclaimed storyteller, narrator, singer, and librettist, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Miss Charlotte wrote this lovely poem for elementary/primary school children to learn about the life of Martin Luther King Jr. and why he's so important in American history.

Miss Charlotte has a big pocketbook of stories as she is a popular African and an American griot. She also plays the kora, an African string instrument, and she is the official storyteller for The Philadelphia Orchestra in Pennsylvania, USA.

This is a little big deal;-) and so I must share an important update about the future of our podcast.

AOSV will be moving to a bi-weekly format for the remainder of 2022. So every other Saturday you will get a new story or poetry or song to sing along. When you or your parents subscribe to the podcast, you will be notified every time a new episode drops!
