In this week’s episode, we begin with a celebration of the “English for Me” Karaoke Contest, a joyful initiative where over 80 parents from diverse linguistic backgrounds practiced English through song at Mendez Middle School. 

This event highlighted the district’s commitment to building a supportive environment for language learners.

We also dive into the district’s long-term planning regarding districtwide boundary changes and potential school consolidations. While these changes are slated for implementation in the 2027-28 school year, community engagement begins this Spring to help shape a shared academic vision and ensure educational values are met across every campus. 

For business owners, we highlight the Austin Ed Fund’s Summer Internship Program. This program provides high school students with paid, real-world work experience. Interested partners are invited to a virtual information session on February 12, from 3–4 pm, to learn how they can provide vital career exposure to the next generation of professionals.

The episode also features essential guidance from Superintendent Matias Segura regarding student expectations. We discuss the importance of family conversations about expectations, as the district emphasizes that leaving campus for a protest is considered an unexcused absence.
