In this week’s episode we highlight the kickoff of Black History Month, beginning with the Pan-African Flag-raising Ceremony at Akins High School on Monday, Feb. 2.

The TEA has approved 22 of the district’s 24 Turnaround Plans without requiring adjustments, a move that affirms the school improvement work already underway.

• While most plans passed, the district is working to provide additional details on student support and funding for Widén and Winn Elementary schools, with a resubmission deadline set for the end of March.

Academic data shows progress at Dobie, Burnet, and Webb Middle Schools. The district is exploring 1882 partnership contingencies, which could provide these campuses with additional funding and a two-year pause from state sanctions. A board vote on these recommendations is expected in mid-to-late February.

Key enrollment deadlines: For families looking at the next school year, the deadline for Round 1 Admissions-based and Magnet programs is Feb. 6. Round 2 and General Transfers open on Feb. 16, followed by Pre-K applications on April 1.
