Autism unemployment rates have been reported to be as high as 90%. Holding a job is a foundation for independent living. I decided not to wait for society to catch up with the data. I created a cleaning company specifically for my non-verbal, son on the autism spectrum today, I'm sharing my experience with you.

What is a Waiver? Part 2 discusses five of the eleven Pennsylvania Medicaid waivers most relevant to the autism/disability population. I discuss what the eligibility requirements are and how that can relate to your loved one. I also give my take on gatekeepers of information and how to deal with them. We are taking a brief detour from the waiver series. I will continue discussing what is a waiver in the next episode. I promise!

So this evening I am pissed off. I channeled my anger into a primer for community event planners. For your review, I have given you 4 things to consider when including individuals with disabilities in your community event, group, club, activity. Not only am I a proud parent of 3 humans on the autism spectrum, but I also moonlight as an event planner, so I know a little thing about what you can and should consider.
