Grief has been woven into my story since the day I was born.
My birth story isn't just the story of how I came into this world. It's also the story of a loss that happened the very same day—the death of my uncle, someone I would never get the chance to know in the traditional sense, but who would become an incredibly important part of my life.
In this episode, I'm sharing the beginning of my story: the circumstances surrounding my birth, the relationship I learned to build with an uncle I never physically knew, and the spiritual connections, conversations, and experiences I've had with him throughout my life.
For me, grief, spirituality, and connection have always been intertwined.
And years later, when I was 27 and lost my dad—my best friend, my safe place, my person—that relationship with loss took on an entirely different meaning.
Nothing could have prepared me for the heartbreak of losing my dad. But in some ways, the connection I had already built with my uncle prepared me to understand that a relationship doesn't necessarily end when someone dies.
This episode is about grief, but it's also about connection. It's about the experiences I can't always explain, the ways I've continued relationships with people I love after death, and how those experiences have shaped who I am, how I heal, and the work I do today.
Some stories don't begin where we think they do.
Mine begins the day I was born—with both a beginning and an ending.
And I think I've been learning what it means to hold both ever since.
