  • Examples:
    • Do examples authorize? Yes.
    • Do examples bind? No.
    • Do examples exclude? No.
    • Examples illustrate a right way to do a thing, but they are not binding and exclusive.
      • Jesus said, “go.” (Matthew 28:18
        • Paul went by ship, a right way to go.
        • But not binding nor exclusive.
        • Jesus said, “teach.”
          • Paul taught privately (Acts 2.
          • This is a right way, but it is not exclusive.
          • The example itself is not binding, but the command of Galatians 6:10, and like passages, do make it binding that we teach privately.
          • Congregational benevolence:
            • Examples: Acts 2:44-45
            • Statement: Romans 15:25-26
            • Command: I Corinthians 16:1-3
            • A local church is not authorized to relieve non-saints by way of command, statement, example, nor necessary inference.
            • But the examples do not exclude local church relief of non-saints.
            • If another passage authorized local church relief of non-saints, it would be right.
            • Local church relief of non-saints is wrong because no passage in the Word of God authorizes it, not because the examples exclude it!
