Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects children children as young as 18 months of age. It is a spectrum disorder which is life long. Some individuals with autism develop speech while many remain nonverbal.
Our son is on the autism spectrum . He remains nonverbal to this day . He communicates with an AAC device which stands for Augmentative and Alternative communication.
