How to Speak to a Mechanic:

  1. Find a shop - ask around, ask family, look at reviews on Facebook and city chat rooms
  2. Consider an Independent mechanic - can't afford to do a bad job, experenced. Car Care Clinics and Rick's Pro Truck are locally owned shops.
  3. Learn about your car - read your owner's manual
  4. Learn what's wrong with your car so you can explain the problem
  5. Be comfortable with the service writer
  6. Expect an estimate - get one but know it's an estimate
  7. Don't leave the shop until you've gone over the bill
  8. Dispute the bill if needed
