Auto Correct: Prevention of Car Theft

Listen Later

Tips to protect your car from being stolen:

  • Keep custody of your keys: don't leave them in a running car, don't leave them in a sitting car, don't hide a key on the car, don't give a key to someone who doesn't need it

  • Secure your vehicle: lock your car, close your windows all the way

  • Choose the best parking place: park inside your garage or carport, park near a building entrance, park in a well lit area, park near an attendant

  • Don't leave valuables in the car

  • Anti-theft devices: alarms, steering wheel immobilizers, kill switch, live video feed

  • GPS recovery: On Star, LoJack, or a tracker

  • maybe a manual transmission car (kidding, not kidding)

  • Don't let a stranger follow your car to your destination. Make the block if you think someone is tailing you (this happened to a neighbor)

Recalls for the week: 2019 Toyota RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid: damaged connector in the audio display unit may cause the backup camera;  2020 Ford Explorer, Lincoln Aviator:  manual park release cover may be missing and instrument cluster may be in factory mode, which disables warning alerts and chimes, and does not display the PRNDL gear positions and which gear is selected;           2018-2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio: instrument panel may indicate a fuel level that’s higher than the actual level

You can find out if your car has a past recall by going to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration’s website: https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls  and inputting your VIN number.

Consumer Reports has a list of vehicle models that have a record of much-worse-than-average overall reliability based on subscriber responses to their Annual Auto Survey. Today, we’re going to caution you about: 2011 Chevrolet Cruze   The most-reported problem is anti freeze smell in the car. Please consider reading up on the reliability of this car before purchasing it as a used car, suggests Consumer Reports.   https://www.consumerreports.org/used-cars/used-cars-to-avoid-buying/          https://www.carcomplaints.com/ is another resource for unreliable car lists.
