A new study from the University of Michigan found that driving an electrified vehicle will reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared to those produced by a gasoline car, regardless of where you live, so long as you live within the contiguous United States.

The authors of the study say it is the "most comprehensive to date. " An online calculator will allow drivers to estimate greenhouse gas emissions based on what they drive, how they drive, and where they live, so you can see for yourself what your own emissions look like.

"Vehicle electrification is a key strategy for climate action. Transportation accounts for 28% of greenhouse gas emissions and we need to reduce those to limit future climate impacts such as flooding, wildfires and drought events, which are increasing in intensity and frequency," said Greg Keoleian, senior author of the study and professor at the University's School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS).

Critically, Keoleian and his colleagues studied each vehicle type's environmental impact across the vehicle's lifetime, not just within a given mileage or timeframe, as some studies have done. Other factors, like vehicle class, driving behavior, and location, were also considered. Powertrains included internal combustion engines, hybrid electric, plug-in hybrids, and fully electric. For hybrids, the U-M researchers also considered how often drivers of PHEVs were driving on battery power or gasoline.

The study found that EVs have lower emissions "over their lifetime than any other vehicle type in every county in the contiguous U.S." Predictably, combustion-powered pickups, one of the most popular segments in the US today, pollute the most. This is true to such an extreme that the study shows an electric pickup truck could carry 2,500 pounds of cargo and still emit 30% less than an unburdened ICE truck. Small, compact, electric sedans pollute the least, owing largely to their low per-mile emissions and smaller batteries.

In fact, larger batteries and the greater range they typically carry can harm the efficiency of electric vehicles. Instead, the study's lowest emissions vehicle was a compact sedan with around 200 miles of range.

The study points out some glaring issues with the car culture in the US. Buyers often end up in EVs doing significantly more than they need, and with more range than they need. To be able to effectively reduce one's carbon emissions, Keoleian says you need to be doing the opposite: "The thing is really matching your vehicle with your needs," Keoleian said. "Obviously, if you’re in the trades, you may need a pickup truck. But you can get a battery electric pickup truck. If you’re just commuting to work by yourself, I’d recommend a sedan BEV instead."

In most cars, a door is usually just a door; they're meant to open and close in the same way that you open and close your front door, your bedroom door, or any other conventional type of door you encounter every day. But for some automakers, certain types of car doors have become a statement piece that defines their image and aura.

For instance, car enthusiasts know what the term Lamborghini doors refers to, as the Italian sports car brand has made scissor doors popular since their inclusion in the Countach in the 1970s. In addition, the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL and the DeLorean DMC-12 popularized gullwing doors before Tesla brought them to the EV era with the Model X's Falcon-wing doors.

However, recent patent filings indicate that one special kind of door exclusive to ultra-luxury manufacturers like Rolls-Royce is coming to an offering from a more mainstream manufacturer. According to recent reports from Electrek and the Korean Car Blog, two recent patent filings registered to Hyundai and Kia with the United States Patent and Trademark Office indicate that the brands are working on their own versions of rear-hinged coach doors, which are distinctly different from those of the BMW-owned British ultra-luxury marque.

The two patents, which are titled “Cinching Device for Door Latches in Vehicles” and “Door Latch Device for Vehicles,” explain how the upcoming Genesis GV90’s coach doors will work in great detail.

The new patents highlight the advanced engineering required to achieve this pillarless, rear-hinged door system, which integrates structural support directly into the doors, rather than relying on a traditional B-pillar. As a result, the GV90 will offer a large, unobstructed opening for entry and exit, providing an experience akin to more expensive ultra-luxury vehicles.

The "Cinching Device" is a highly advanced latching system that uses a “cinching actuator” and “lead screw” to ensure the multiple latches on the doors close securely. At the same time, the "Door Latch Device" helps guide the door into its final position and lock it securely. Together, these newly patented devices guarantee a perfect fit and a tight seal for a safe and quiet cabin.

Rolls-Royce

Fans and eager customers got their first look at the upcoming GV90's pillarless coach doors at the NY Auto Show last March through the Genesis Neolun concept car, which showcased the pillarless coach doors. According to Electrek, the coach doors may be offered as an option for the upcoming Genesis GV90, as test mules with conventional doors have been spotted testing in the U.S. and South Korea.

Genesis is expected to release the GV90 sometime in mid-2026 and will be built at the flagship Ulsan plant in South Korea. Details are still sparse about the vehicle, but the heavy EV is expected to be positioned above the brand's current largest GUV offering, the GV80, to compete with the likes of the Cadillac Escalade iQ and the Lucid Gravity.

Coach doors are incredibly rare outside of Rolls-Royce. If Genesis gets the option for both conventional and coach doors, it would be the first since Lincoln offered the limited edition, retro-inspired Coach Door edition of the Continental.

Although it may seem like a lot to make a big deal out of a seemingly innocuous feature, Genesis has the opportunity to gain significant momentum with both enthusiasts and the buying public if it were to offer coach doors on the GV80 or any other of its vehicles. Besides screen size, a feature like this could lure some luxury buyers over to the young South Korean brand.

Remember the time when a four-year car loan felt like forever? In 2025, however, the average car loan term now stretches to nearly six full years of monthly payments. That's longer than a presidential term and just shy of outlasting two midterm elections. This dramatic shift represents a seismic change from car loans that averaged around 60 months less than a decade ago. 

The six-year car loan has become the sweet spot for most buyers, offering a balance between affordable monthly payments and reasonable interest costs. What's driving this trend? Simple economics. The average cost of a new car is just below $50,000, forcing consumers to stretch their auto loan terms just to keep payments affordable. With average monthly payments hitting $745 for new vehicles in 2025, buyers are desperately seeking ways to reduce their monthly financial burden.

While six-year loans now dominate the market, seven and eight-year car loan terms are quietly gaining popularity. These super-long auto loan terms can significantly reduce monthly obligations: a $35,000 car loan at 7% interest drops from approximately $693 monthly on a five-year term to just $510 monthly when stretched to seven years.

However, this payment relief comes with a steep price tag. A $35,000, six-year loan at eight percent costs more than $44,000 total, and extending to seven or eight years only amplifies this interest burden.

The mathematics of extended car financing reveals a sobering truth. While longer loan terms reduce monthly payments to manageable chunks, they dramatically increase total costs. The average loan amount for a new car in 2025 is $41,473, with an average interest rate of 7.1%.

Stretching a $40,000 car loan from five years to seven years might reduce monthly payments by $150, but it adds thousands in total interest costs. This cheaper monthly payment-focused approach often leaves buyers underwater on their loans for years, making leasing a smarter choice. The effects of tariffs on new car prices will just compound matters.

Here’s a handy reality check: before you sign on the dotted line, stop to consider whether the President who was in office when you bought your car will still be around when you finally finish paying for it.  

The Chevrolet Corvette, in its current iteration, has been upholding the nameplate's reputation to a higher standard. The first mid-engined 'Vette has delivered record-setting laps, garnering consistent recognition as one of the finest American performance cars ever built. 

Yet, for all its achievements, it left behind a feature that some enthusiasts still seek: a manual gearbox. The last Corvettes to offer three pedals were from the C7 generation, and examples with low mileage are becoming increasingly rare. One such car, a 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible equipped with a seven-speed manual transmission, is now up for auction on Bring a Trailer, boasting unusually low mileage.

Bring a Trailer

The car in question is finished in Night Race Blue Metallic, featuring a power-operated gray soft top, and shows only 7,000 miles on its digital odometer. It was acquired new by the selling dealer’s owner in 2014, with approximately 6,000 miles accumulated since then. This C7 is equipped with the 2LT Preferred Equipment Group, which adds features such as heated and ventilated leather seats, a Bose premium sound setup, a head-up display, and automatic climate control. Additional highlights include a MyLink infotainment system, xenon headlights, and cruise control.

Under the hood sits the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter LT1 V8, factory-rated at 455 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential, making this convertible one of the last Corvettes available with a factory manual setup. Four-wheel slotted and ventilated rotors handle braking, while an Active Handling System with all-speed traction control helps maintain stability. The car rides on 18-inch front and 19-inch rear five-spoke alloy wheels, finished in silver, and is currently wrapped in a set of old Michelin tires.

The cockpit layout emphasizes both comfort and driver focus. A multifunction steering wheel frames a 205-mph speedometer, gauges for coolant temperature and fuel, and a center-mounted digital display with a tachometer and virtual gauges. A clean Carfax report accompanies the car, along with the original manufacturer’s literature and a Delaware title.

As of this writing, the current bid stands at just over $25,000, with the auction set to close in six days. Considering this is one of the last manual-equipped C7 Corvette Convertibles with relatively low mileage – and the fact that manual-equipped sports cars are dying – the car should appeal to collectors and enthusiasts alike, especially those who still value the thrill of shifting their own gears. Whether it ends up in a private garage or sees weekend road use, this example offers a snapshot of what the Corvette could be if it still offers the good ol' manual.

Earlier this year, Stellantis announced a new Level 3 autonomous driving system called STLA AutoDrive, a hands-free, eyes-off system that can be used at speeds of up to 37 mph. It was an exciting development, given that only one automaker, Mercedes-Benz, has an approved Level 3 system in the United States.

The AutoDrive system would likely have made its way into luxury models under the Stellantis umbrella first, such as the Jeep Wagoneer S, the SUV used to demonstrate the technology. That plan has now been scrapped, at least for now, despite the system being fully developed. Here’s why Stellantis made this decision.

Stellantis

Three people familiar with the matter told Reuters that a combination of limited customer demand, high costs, and technological challenges resulted in AutoDrive being shelved. Stellantis stopped short of saying the AutoDrive program is permanently canceled, though, which conflicts with what the three sources claim.

“What was unveiled in February 2025 was L3 technology for which there is currently limited market demand, so this has not been launched, but the technology is available and ready to be deployed,” claimed a spokesperson from Stellantis. The company representative was unwilling to divulge the amount of time and money that was lost on developing AutoDrive when asked about it.

The AutoDrive system not only allows the driver to take their hands off the wheel under certain conditions, but their eyes, too. Primarily designed for urban environments, it would enable drivers to temporarily partake in other activities like watching videos, checking emails, or using other in-car entertainment functions.

“Helping drivers make the best use of their time is a priority,” said Ned Curic, Stellantis chief engineering and technology officer back in February. “By handling routine driving tasks, STLA AutoDrive will enhance the driving experience, making time behind the wheel more efficient and enjoyable.”

Stellantis

When launched, Stellantis made some impressive claims about the AutoDrive system, saying it’s an “evolving system” that will continue improving over time. Its future enhancements were to include hands-off and eyes-free driving at much higher speeds of up to 59 mph. For certain models, presumably compatible Ram or Jeep trucks/SUVs, an automated off-road function was to become available.

AutoDrive would have given Stellantis EVs like the Jeep Wagoneer S a real edge over rivals like Tesla. Despite Tesla’s Full Self-Driving suite being able to operate in a range of conditions, it’s still a Level 2 system that requires the driver to remain attentive at all times. And, while Mercedes has its Level 3 system operational in the USA, it’s only available on the expensive S-Class and EQS, and only in parts of California and Nevada.

For now, Stellantis fans will have to settle for much more basic tech like the Jeep and Ram’s Active Driving Assist system, which still requires complete driver attentiveness.

The Volvo XC70 nameplate is making a return, but it looks very different from what long-time followers may remember. The original XC70, first launched in 2003 and discontinued in 2016, was a raised, reinforced version of the V70 mid-size wagon.

Much like today's V60 Cross Country, the old XC70 had cladding, higher ground clearance, and had a reputation for blending practicality with ruggedness. For more than a decade, it served as Volvo's adventure-oriented family vehicle before quietly being discontinued from the lineup.

Now, after years of absence, the XC70 is back, although this time it trades its wagon-based roots for a new identity – a long-range plug-in hybrid SUV.

Volvo

Volvo's new XC70 is positioned as the brand's first long-range plug-in hybrid, or extended range EV (EREV), offering an electric driving range of over 124 miles under the CLTC cycle. That makes it the longest-range plug-in hybrid in the company's portfolio so far.

Built on the Scalable Modular Architecture (SMA) platform – which the Geely Group, Volvo's parent company, developed specifically for long-range PHEVs – the XC70 is initially aimed at the Chinese market, with European availability to follow. It can travel more than 746 miles on a combined tank and battery, with the combustion engine, which charges the battery on the go, providing flexibility for longer trips.

When plugged in, the XC70 can charge to 80 percent in just 23 minutes. It's also capable of bi-directional charging, allowing the car to power external appliances, such as camping equipment, with the proper adapter.

In terms of design, the new XC70 is a clean break from its predecessor. The familiar wagon silhouette is gone, replaced by a tall SUV stance – not unlike Volvo's current EVs like the EX90. Its closed grille with active shutters nods to Volvo's electric lineup while also improving aerodynamics. Sculpted bodywork, a gently tapering roofline, and vertically integrated taillights give it a modern Scandinavian presence that is more aligned with the brand's newer SUV offerings.

Inside, the focus is on space and premium comfort, with high-quality materials, generous storage solutions, and an acoustically tuned sound experience.

Volvo

The XC70 integrates Volvo's latest digital technology, including a large 15.4-inch horizontal center display, a 12.3-inch driver's display, and an optional 92-inch augmented reality head-up display. Connectivity features extend to an AI-powered voice assistant, over-the-air updates, and remote access functions through the Volvo Cars app.

Safety remains a central aspect of the XC70's identity. Volvo equips it with its Safe Space Technology suite, which utilizes radar, cameras, and sensors to monitor surroundings, mitigate collisions, and assist in urban settings with features such as door-opening alerts for cyclists. Driver support tools such as automatic lane change assist, Park Pilot Assist, and active navigation support round out the package.

Production has already begun, with pre-orders now open in China, marking the official return of a familiar name in a completely new form. It's unclear, however, if it will ever be offered in the US, though we're not counting on it, given its current production site and the platform it's using.

Volvo

The all-electric Macan made its debut in January for the 2025 model year, and Porsche has revealed several updates its successor brings to the table. Porsche’s release of its Macan electric vehicle (EV) was significant in more ways than one. In addition to becoming the automaker’s first fully electric compact SUV, the release brought EV technology to the company’s best-selling model line. In contrast, all-electric Porsches, such as the Taycan—while admired—are more niche compared to the Macan, reflecting the manufacturer’s desire to electrify core parts of its lineup.

Porsche

The Macan’s combination of practicality and performance makes it a sensible electric option, as it targets a broader market, including key demographics such as families and new EV buyers. This approach evidently resonated with drivers, as by March 2024, Porsche’s CEO, Oliver Blume, said that the model had already received 10,000 orders. Still, the Macan EV is facing competition from compact electric SUVs such as the Polestar 3 and the Audi Q6 e-tron, the latter of which shares its platform technology. Below are the notable updates that Porsche is introducing to the 2026 Macan EV to enhance its value.

One of the 2026 Macan EV’s most significant updates is its increased towing capacity for the Macan 4, Macan 4S, and Macan Turbo trims, from 1,100 pounds to 5,500 lbs. Standard all-wheel drive across these three trims complements the 5,500-pound towing capacity, reflecting that the Macan EV delivers practicality in addition to sporty styling traits.

Porsche is also enhancing the 2026 Macan EV’s semi-autonomous capabilities, with parking and reverse maneuvers being key areas of emphasis. Active Parking Support pairs with the 2026 Macan’s 3D Surround View to detect suitable parking spaces. Once the feature detects an appropriate spot, it automatically controls steering, forward, and backward movements to park the 2026 Macan EV in parallel or perpendicular spaces. Porsche noted that this automatic assistance is compatible with narrow or awkward spaces. Parking is further facilitated by the new Trained Parking feature, which automatically performs parking routines after recording a one-time manual operation. Drivers can store up to five parking routines at a time to cover common destinations, such as their garage, driveway, or workplace. A new Reversing Assist feature allows a 2026 Macan EV to reverse along a route automatically it has driven forward on, remembering up to 160 feet in length. Like all semi-autonomous functions, driver supervision is required; however, Reversing Assist is designed to make maneuvers in areas such as parking garages seamless.

Porsche

For the Macan EV’s sophomore year, Porsche has refined the SUV’s Voice Pilot voice control feature. Porsche states that the Voice Pilot in the 2026 Macan now comprehends complex, interrelated questions and recognizes what a statement refers to. Voice Pilot also integrates an onboard manual, communicating answers about vehicle operation to save you time sifting through the print version. To enhance entertainment, Porsche has introduced games from providers such as Gameloft and Obscure Interactive into the 2026 Macan EV’s App Center. These games are controlled via a touchscreen or a Bluetooth controller, and can be linked with a Bluetooth headset for improved audio isolation. Passengers in any area of the vehicle can play together, or alone, and front passenger seat riders can game without distracting the driver.

Porsche

If you’re wondering why the 2025 Porsche Macan EV didn’t have a digital key, you won’t experience Déjà vu with the 2026 model. A 2026 Macan EV’s digital key is compatible with iPhone, Apple Watch, and Android devices. Drivers can perform functions like locking/unlocking their vehicle and starting the power system while keeping compatible devices in their pocket, or holding them near a designated reader. Even if an iPhone or Android needs charging, Macan EV owners can use the digital key to access and start their SUV. Owners of this Porsche may also share their digital key via Apple Mail, Messages, WhatsApp, and more, with up to seven other users. After sharing the digital key with another user, the owner can control the other person’s privileges, such as whether they can drive. The My Porsche App supplements the digital key by providing control over the luggage compartment and front trunk. Once you or a passenger is inside, there’s more customization than last year. This personalization includes updates like new options for the door sill guards, LED door courtesy lights, and prioritization of charging stations along a programmed route.

Porsche

Last year, Porsche laid the groundwork for the Macan EV, and now the 2026 model is filling in the blanks with improved towing capabilities in all-wheel-drive trims, enhanced semi-autonomous features, and an interior with greater personalization options. While some of this SUV’s new features, such as the digital key and in-car gaming, are playing catch-up to competitors like Tesla, the 2026 Macan EV distinguishes itself by going above and beyond in areas like automatic parking assistance and visibility. In addition to semi-autonomous parking assistance, the new Transparent Hood function uses front and exterior mirror cameras to provide a virtual view of the area in front of the vehicle via the central display—a perspective that Teslas don’t currently offer. The 2026 Macan EV’s variants are now available for ordering, with deliveries set to begin in the U.S. spring of 2026.

The number of new in-vehicle technologies that have little or nothing to do with actual driving keeps increasing. Besides the driver-assistance tech that’s taking over a host of everyday driving duties, automakers are also investing more heavily in in-car gaming. The latest automaker to do so is Porsche, which is set to introduce in-car gaming in collaboration with Swiss startup, AirConsole. It’s the latest German brand to join forces with the gaming company, after BMW and Audi.

Porsche/AirConsole

As with other AirConsole setups, the driver can only join in on the gaming fun when the vehicle is parked, for obvious safety reasons. At least, that’s until Porsche introduces a Level 3 driving system of its own, but there’s no sign of that being a priority for the driver-focused manufacturer.

Passengers can continue gaming while the vehicle is in motion, using the front passenger display equipped to some Porsche models. Perhaps the Porsche-AirConsole collab was in the works for some time, as Porsche began introducing an optional passenger-side display screen in several models over the last year or two, including the latest Cayenne. The passenger-side screen isn’t visible to drivers when the car is in motion, so won’t distract them.

AirConsole integrates easily by downloading the app from the Porsche App Center, which is available on vehicles with the Porsche Connect package. A passenger only needs to scan a QR code with their smartphone, which then turns into a controller—no extra hardware is required, and up to five people can play together.

Gaming titles are chosen specifically for their suitability for the in-car environment, which genres like racing, party, trivia, and sports. Popular titles include Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and UNO Car Party.

The AirConsole app will be available on the new Porsche Macan at the end of this year, but it’s expected to expand across the Porsche lineup. Presumably, this is the second-generation, all-electric Macan EV, as that's the model depicted in the images here.

EVs and gaming tech go together well, so we anticipate AirConsole finding its way into the Taycan lineup soon too. By the time Porsche’s all-new gas-powered crossover arrives in 2028, most, if not all, Porsches could have AirConsole access.

Porsche and AirConsole will provide more details about the new partnership at the IAA Motor Show in Munich on September 10.

If you order a ride-share (Uber, Lyft, or Taxi) to pick you up from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), there’s now a free shuttle that brings you to a designated pickup area. The system generally works well, but be aware: fake, unlicensed taxi drivers are operating in the terminals.

Recently, after returning late at night from a trip, I ordered an Uber to pick me up from LAX. As I waited, I saw passengers being harassed by people offering taxi service. When I confronted one who was zeroing in on a hapless traveler, he became threatening and attempted to intimidate. He scurried off the minute I tried to flag down airport security, which tells you all you need to know about his legitimacy.

In the past, ride-shares would stop near one of the seven terminals, which only worsened the already heavy traffic. Now, a dedicated shuttle takes passengers to a centralized area where taxis, Lyft, and Uber can pick you up. This is part of the LAX-IT shuttle service, and overall, it’s a big improvement.

One of the best aspects is the dedicated inner loop road, which allows the shuttle to bypass much of the congestion. The loop is quick, efficient, and only makes two stops before dropping passengers at the ride-share zone. Compared to the old curbside chaos, it’s a relief. From Terminal 1, the zone is also within walking distance, or about a ten-minute walk if you’d rather skip the shuttle.

As of now, ride-shares can still drop passengers directly at their terminal, but this will change when the new Automated People Mover rail system finally opens in early 2026. This free, elevated train will connect the airport to the LAX/Metro Transit Center, the rental car hub, and all terminals, replacing shuttles with a seamless link.

Here’s the problem: at the LAX-IT area, unlicensed and often aggressive taxi drivers try to lure passengers away. I’ve seen them firsthand more than once, and they are becoming a real issue. They’re especially active late at night, when travelers are tired and less willing to wait for the shuttle - even though, in reality, the wait is rarely long, even past midnight.

This is how their scam works: they approach travelers with promises of a “cheaper” ride. No matter your destination, they’ll claim it will cost less than an Uber or Lyft. Once you agree, and especially after your bags are in their vehicle, the story changes. Suddenly, there are new fees, demands for gratuities, or outright fare inflation. Worse, many of these drivers operate without proper insurance, licensing, or even a legitimate taxi permit. Some are driving off-duty cabs, and others may not have the right to operate at all.

Why does that matter? If there’s an accident, theft, or any crime, you’re left with no accountability and no coverage. Legitimate taxis and ride-shares provide insurance, driver screening, and customer support. Fake operators offer none of that. I even heard a story of a traveler who unknowingly climbed into what turned out to be a stolen taxi. Instead of getting home, they spent hours at a police station answering questions. That’s the risk: once you step into one of these vehicles, you’re vulnerable.

If you’re flying into LAX, stick with the official process:

• Take the LAX-IT shuttle or walk to the official pickup area. There are many signs inside and outside the terminal.
• Only use rides booked through Uber, Lyft, or a verified taxi company.
• Never accept offers from strangers approaching you with promises of cheaper fares. If they are approaching you at a shuttle stop, they are not supposed to be there.
• The LAX-IT shuttles are free and ADA-compliant.
• Report suspicious behavior to LAX airport security (855) 463-5252 or the LAPD (at LAX) (424) 646-6100.

These unlicensed drivers prey on convenience and fatigue, but the risk isn’t worth the few dollars you may or may not save.

Chemical giant turned off-road vehicle specialist Ineos is taking a significant pivot from its previous pricing moves, as it has made considerable price cuts on its Grenadier line of 4x4s in the United States. According to a new report by Automotive News, prices have dropped across the British firm's lineup, including the recently introduced Quartermaster pickup. Pricing for the Grenadier SUV has dropped 9.8% from $80,500 to now start at $72,600, while prices for higher trims like the Trialmaster and Fieldmaster have dropped 8.9% from $88,500 to now start at $80,600. Pricing for the Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster pickup dropped 9% from $94,500 to $86,000.

In a statement to AutoNews, an Ineos spokesperson said the latest price cuts occurred on the first day of August and were made to better compete with its contemporaries.

“This adjustment reflects our commitment to meeting the competitive set and ensuring the Grenadier delivers exceptional value in its segment,” they said.

The move to shed its price tags comes just three months after it increased prices to absorb tariff costs. On April 4, following President Trump's 'Liberation Day' announcements, Ineos Automotive announced the price increases, which it noted were "all it can [do] to keep prices in check."

"We want to provide our US Grenadier customers with clarity in a world of change and uncertainty," Ineos Automotive CEO Lynn Calder said in a statement at the time. "Until EU politicians get off their hands and make a deal with the US, we’re doing what we can as a small competitive brand to protect our valued US customers from the tariff price increases."

Prior to April, pricing for the Grenadier SUV started at $76,700, while the Trialmaster and Fieldmaster trims began at $84,700 before the new U.S. tariffs. The Quartermaster pickup truck, which is subject to President Johnson's 1964 25% Chicken tax due to its French origin, started at $85,500 in April after an $11,000 price cut in March.

Ineos Automotive doesn't release any sales figures, but a spokesperson told AutoNees that U.S. deliveries saw a 2% year-over-year increase during the first half of 2025. Alternatively, S&P Global Mobility data cited by the trade publication saw that Ineos’ U.S. vehicle registrations dropped 23% in June, with 331 vehicles registered, while the 2,468 vehicles registered in the first half reflected a 14% dip.

Currently, cars and auto parts originating from the European Union face a 27.5% tariff upon entry to the United States, even though the Trump administration and the EU struck a trade agreement that would lower said tariffs to 15%. Previously, Trump said that it wouldn’t apply to cars until legislation was proposed to remove tariffs on US industrial supplies. However, according to a new report by Bloomberg, the European Commission is set to fast-track legislation that would do so, as well as give preferential tariff rates on certain seafood and agricultural goods.

In a statement on July 28, Ineos Automotive CEO Lynn Calder expressed that they're "relieved" that a deal has been reached between the two trading blocs, adding that a 15% tariff rarte is "a significant uplift in cost for our fledgling business against the pre-'Liberation Day' baseline," adding that it "gives us a runway for continued growth" in its biggest market, the US.

"Hoping for a period of stability so that we can just get on with the business of delivering Grenadiers to our customers," Calder said.

It should be noted that the manufacturer's own price adjustment is not the only discount facing the Ineos Grenadier line of vehicles. If you are a Costco member, you can enjoy member-exclusive benefits on Ineos vehicles as part of the Costco Auto Program; specifically $2,000 off the Grenadier SUV, or $1,750 off the Quartermaster. According to a statement from a Costco Auto Program spokesperson to AutoNews, Costco began offering Ineos models in June, and all Ineos dealers are participating in the program.
