In this episode, I am speaking with three of JBT Automated Systems’ subject matter experts in safety and technology. We discuss safety best practices for a newly installed AGV system, key distinctions between the safety of the AGV itself vs the AGV’s operating space, and changes that may affect the AGV’s behavior, and finally the relationship between cost and safety and how to balance the two.
But the main focus of this podcast is on the unique opportunities for continued safety improvements on a fleet of AGVs as your factory or warehouse changes over time.
Guests:
Eric Steffy
Electrical Engineer, software developer and Product Safety Specialist with 29 years of experience.
Dave Rabinovic
Systems Engineering Manager with 23 years of experience in the AGV industry and 27 years of experience in manufacturing.
Patrick Cullington
Systems Integration Engineer with 4 years of experience with AGV systems.

The recent advances in technology have increased flexibility in indoor mobility and human-robot collaboration, opening up new opportunities to perform material handling tasks, especially in narrow, dynamic environments, such as hospitals.
Sensing devices, powerful on-board computers, artificial intelligence, and collaborative equipment allow autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) to drive and fulfill material handling activities autonomously. In hospitals, material handling activities are widely performed manually.
Hospitals are facing many challenges today, such as departments going lean, keeping up with the latest technology, and the demand for turnaround time on central supply materials, medications, blood samples and specimens.
In today’s episode of Automate This! Podcast, we will dive into how AMRs help hospitals overcome staff shortages, how they improve workflow and patient satisfaction, and we will also discuss AMR technology.

Choosing which processes to automate and which technologies to provide for automation projects can be overwhelming. You know some of your competitors have installed automatic guided vehicles, also known as (AGVs), to automate material movement, but your company is probably more risk-averse and wants proof that this will deliver the desired benefits.
In this episode, Mark Lonagcre will share a brief update on the industrial mobile robot market. You will learn how to get started with material movement automation, and some things to consider as you develop plans to show that automating material movement is right for you.
