Because pastoring is weighty work, churches should give pastors/elders:

- 1. Weighty Compensation (vv. 17-18)

- 2. Weighty Discipline (vv. 19-21)

- 3. Weighty Development (vv. 22-25)

Main Point: God uses families to help those who cannot help themselves!

Main Point: through the declaration and demonstration of the gospel, God saves sinful people!

Main point: Salvation always modifies behavior, but behavior modification never produces salvation!

The word Holiness may fill your mind with thoughts of dusty, cloistered halls of a monastery.  You might think of chants and long prayers.  It hardly seems like an appropriate word for the 21st century!  But according to one theologian, God's holiness is the one attribute that binds all His other attributes together.  This is the characteristic that most uniquely describes God.  Today we will seek to gain a fresh view of the holiness of God.

Elders and deacons both serve as examples of Jesus to the congregation.

Elders: examples of Jesus the “Chief Shepherd”

Deacons: examples of Jesus the “Chief Servant” (see Mark 10:45, “For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, to give his life as a ransom for many.”)

Psalm 23 outline:

God Provides for His People (vv. 1-3a)

God Protects His People (vv. 3b-4)

God Honors His People (vv. 5-6)
