There is a difference between being around Jesus and following Jesus. While the crowd was attracted to what Jesus could do for them, Jesus called His disciples closer. Jesus is always inviting us to take one step closer, moving from the crowd into a relationship with Him that transforms us and sends us out on His mission.

How can we look at this exchange between Jesus and the Pharisees and see how a heart of stone can rob us from what Jesus offers us.

The Sabbath was a gift from God, but the Pharisees turned it into a burden. They missed the heart behind the Sabbath. But Jesus reminds them of the purpose of the Sabbath and tells them that He is Lord of the Sabbath.

Sometimes we find ourselves asking why don't you just do what everybody else does? That's essentially the question the religious leaders are asking Jesus. But Jesus is going to show them that He didn’t come to give you more religion He came to give them the gospel.

Jesus meets a man named Levi, who is a tax collector, and what Jesus does with this tax collector is going to show us something incredibly important about the kind of people Jesus came to save.

There are moments that can change the direction of a person’s life. In Mark 2, we meet a paralyzed man and his friends, who come to Jesus and think they know what the paralyzed man needs, but Jesus was about to give him something even greater than he ever imagined.

We all know what it is like to be desperate, but in our desperate times, we need to go to our compassionate Savior.
