Welcome back to Awakened Exchanges! I’m your host Jay Rich and this episode is going to be a little different. I’ve been using this month to focus on fun things that bring people joy, and I hope these exchanges have brought at least a smile or two to your faces this month. Our first holiday episode was a conspiratorial chat with Nick Hinton, while the second was fantasy sports and gambling with Andrew Wiggins, and then I introduced you to my friend Chris and our shared cannabis passion. As I mentioned last week, I’ve had a couple of cancellations and postponements this month, and I wasn’t really sure that I’d release an episode this week. With that in mind, I decided to release this short Christmas Eve message without a normal interview. I hope that you don’t mind the quick solo episode and that you join us back here for another great interview on New Year’s Eve. Hopefully that’ll get us back on our normal recording and release schedule and I can get a couple of extra episodes in the can so we don’t end up going dark for a week.
Now that that’s all been said, I want to start this week again by thanking everyone who is listening now or who has listened to an episode thus far. This really has been an incredible experience so far, even with some of the roller coaster aspects of starting a new endeavor. I definitely appreciate all of you listeners out there bearing with any of these early bumps and I’ll keep doing my best to bring you new episodes each week. If you have suggestions for topics or guests, please email me from our website or contact me on twitter @AwakenExchanges. I hope to have a full, diverse, and interesting schedule for 2021, so I hope you’re here to join us each and every week. I’m extraordinarily grateful for all of you.
Since there is no interview this week, please bear with me as I give a brief rundown of our usual sponsors before wrapping up this week. As Always, I want to thank all of you personally for your support. Just listening and sharing this podcast with your friends gives me a reason to keep providing the best content that I can. If you have the means and would like to contribute personally, please take a look at our Patreon page where you will get access to exclusive content and deals for our truly dedicated fans! There are already three bonus videos available as I record this and more are on the way.
Thank you for listening and we’ll see you back here next week for the last of our great exchanges for this year! Please remember that if you enjoy this podcast, it’ll really help us out if you follow us on Spotify or subscribe to us on YouTube, or wherever else you’re listening. Also, please leave us a 5-star review on Apple Podcasts. I know that every podcast says it, but that’s because it really does spread the word. You can also support us on Patreon, or connect with us on the social media of your choice; we are @AwakenedExchanges on FaceBook, and Instagram, and @AwakenExchanges on Twitter.
Thanks again, and have a blessed holiday season!

Welcome back to Awakened Exchanges! I’m your host Jay Rich and this is our third holiday episode of 2020! This whole month I’m focusing on fun things that bring me, and hopefully you, joy. Our first episode was with Nick Hinton and our conspiratorial talk, and the second with Andrew Wiggins and his poker and fantasy sports uprises. I’ve had a couple of cancellations and postponements this month, so I decided to take a step back and look at something that has brought me joy and inspiration for a long time now, cannabis. I want to thank Chris for stepping up this week and talking to me about our shared passion for this amazing plant. I had a blast and I hope you do too. More on our conversation in a bit.
First, I want to thank everyone who is listening now or who has listened to an episode. It’s been an incredible experience this far. While the response has been overwhelmingly positive, it’s not generating revenue just yet and I’ve still got bills to pay. I’m not sure what the timing is going to be like on these next few episodes, but we may be dark for Christmas Eve at this point. I’m still trying to work on a special episode for New Year’s Eve, but just getting an episode posted may be the “special” part of it. I definitely appreciate all of you listeners out there bearing with any of these early bumps. I’ll keep doing my best to bring you new episodes each week. If you have suggestions for topics or guests, please email me from our website or contact me on twitter @AwakenExchanges. I hope to have a full, diverse, and interesting schedule for 2021, so I hope you join us here every week.
Another person I want to thank is this week’s guest Chris Mumey. I’ve known Chris for nearly a decade now and his passion for cannabis might be second to none. Despite my large number of contacts in the industry, I’ve never seen someone with such a wide variety of knowledge and interest in this plant. He may have even smoked more cannabis than I have, he definitely has a more refined cannabis palate, and he follows as many of the growing and extracting technologies as he can. I used to think I had a fairly rounded out cannabis knowledge base, and then I had an in-depth conversation with Chris and realized how much I wasn’t following nowadays. He’s currently employed as an extractor at one of the biggest extraction companies in Portland. He also is one of the most talented photographers that I know, especially when it comes to cannabis pictures. You can find him @pnw_flower_power on Instagram if you want to explore more.
Andrew Wiggins is most known for his work on Establish the Run, the year-round, highest quality fantasy sports analysis.

Welcome back to Awakened Exchanges! I’m your host Jay Rich and this is our second holiday episode of 2020! This whole month I’m focusing on fun things that bring me, and hopefully you, joy. Our first episode was with Nick Hinton, and we had quite the fun conspiratorial talk. I took a bit of a swing in passions for this week, and went to Fantasy Sports. I’ve been a fan of them since I first saw them emerge during my freshman year of college, which if you must know was the 99-00 school year. Basketball was always my sport, but I admit that Fantasy Football can be a lot easier to manage with limited time. This week’s guest will give us a look at the life of a professional Fantasy Sports Analyst. I’m still trying to lock in the last few guests for this month, but if everything goes as planned, we should still have a very special Christmas Eve episode! Stay tuned for more info!
I spent all of last month doing my best to be grateful for everything that presented itself in my life. It seems like that should be an easy thing to do, but it’s even easier to get bogged down in the everyday drudgery, especially as we endure more lockdowns and socially distanced holidays. I’ve been battling to keep the guests I already have scheduled as well as trying to build our audience and expand our reach. Not surprisingly, the holidays haven’t made it any easier to lock in guests, especially as everyone’s schedule gets more and more crowded. I’m continuing to do my best to assure that we don’t go quiet and to keep this podcast keeps building its momentum instead of sliding back, but this is where I need your help. We’ve gotten nothing but positive reviews, but there’s just not as many of them as our downloads would have you believe. I want to hear back from you, yes you specifically, and find out what we can do to help you spread the word? Do you know of a guest that you’d like to hear and would like to put us in touch with? What would get you more invested and excited to hear from us? I am doing this for the audience and your excitement is contagious. I want to hear from you so together we can build this into a show that you’re as excited to see in your feed come Thursday morning as I am to put it out there for you. We’re in this world together, and I hope that we can use this feedback loop as a way to amplify our creative energies and make this podcast, if not the world, a little more fun and accessible. I hope you’re all even a fraction as grateful to be listening as I am to have you here. Let’s accentuate the positive and remember to be grateful everyday.
I’m most definitely grateful for this week’s guest, Andrew Wiggins. He’s probably most known for his work on Establish the Run, the year-round, highest quality fantasy sports analysis. He took the time away from his schedule to visit with us and give an honest and open look into his life, as well as a look inside an industry that many of us have had fantasies about dominating. He talks a lot about recognizing our luck and remembering to be grateful for the wins as well as the losses, as we roll with the punches thrown through life. Andrew was a pleasure to speak with and he seems like a genuinely gregarious individual.

Welcome back to Awakened Exchanges! I’m your host Jay Rich and this is our first holiday episode! This whole month I’ll be focused on fun things that bring me, and hopefully you, joy. Our first episode this month is with Nick Hinton himself, and if the name sounds familiar, that’s probably because you know him as “the conspiracy guy on Twitter.” If everything goes as planned, we should have a very special Christmas Eve with a former member of the Borg themselves! Stay tuned for more info!
My introduction to Nick was because of a Mandela Effect post that happened to catch my eye. I've been interested in the subject since my introduction to the Berenstain vs Berenstein Bears phenomenon. Once I started researching, I found that there were a few things that stuck with me on the anomalous side, whereas a few I remembered “the correct way.” While I’m sure that memory is malleable, I also started seriously considering what bigger implications could be made. I’m a believer in Hugh Everett’s Multiverse Hypothesis, but I like to think of the decision tree as branchial time, where each decision can branch off into multiple lines. If most of those decisions only affect you or a limited number of people, then you can think of those branches eventually being clipped back off into what we’ll call the current consensus reality. My particular thought is, what if the Mandela Effect was actually caused by larger branches of time that were merged on top of one another? Two similar universes, with minor differences in the timeline, dimensionally merged together somehow. This is where I bring up CERN and the fact that the Large Hadron Collider was built in 2008...the year before Fiona Broome launched the Mandela Effect website to ask people if they also remembered Nelson Mandela’s funeral, even though he didn’t die until 2013. There was talk early on about the collider possibly causing miniature black holes, but scientists weren’t concerned as they would burn themselves out before reaching critical mass. That said, in November 2009, Sergio Bertolucci, the Director for Research and Scientific Computing at CERN, said that what they were attempting to do was akin to opening a door and that, I quote, "Out of this door might come something, or we might send something through it." That may have you thinking about Stranger Things and The Upside Down, but what if that door was just to one, or many, very similar realities that share space with us here and now? More in the podcast.
I get the feeling that there are a large number of our audience this week that will be coming here to hear Nick speak. Nick is known as one of the conspiracy theory gurus on Twitter and he first got major attention for his Saturn Time Cube posts. He had compiled a lot of information from various sources and made it a lot more accessible for psychonauts and conspiracy buffs to make it through, eventually publishing his first book on the subject. I get the feeling that we could have gotten going on a number of topics and I hope to have him back on the show someday to do just that. This was one of my favorite conversations yet, and I truly hope that you enjoy this fun little holiday gift to kick off December.

Welcome back to Awakened Exchanges! I’m your host Jay Rich and this is our extra-special Thanksgiving day episode! This whole month we were focused on people who care for others, people that can show us how to be grateful all year round. First off, I just want to tease our holiday episodes that I can’t wait for. Just this past weekend I recorded the first of those episodes with Nick Hinton himself. If the name sounds familiar, that’s probably because you know him as “the conspiracy guy on Twitter.” He’s about to publish his second book and we talked about some very provocative theories about Saturn and our perception of the universe. That episode will air next week, on December 3rd, and it was an immensely fun conversation with a very interesting individual. I can’t overstate how excited I am for him and our other December guests! If everything goes as planned, we should have a hive-mind Christmas Eve with a former member of the Borg themselves!
I really wish that we could stop talking about Covid, but we had nearly 200,000 cases on Friday the 20th alone. We racked up a million new cases in 6 days last week. This is all coming as the nation prepares to close up shop and travel to their families for Thanksgiving. This could be the mother of all super-spreader events and could overwhelm hospitals for the rest of the holiday season. Personally, I’ll be having a virtual Thanksgiving because, although still symptom free, I’m still in my two week quarantine. I know that it’s not the same thing as being able to break bread together, or share the comfort food meals that we want, but it’s better than putting my high-risk parents at even higher risk. We’ve all endured a lot of hardships throughout 2020, not to mention the animosity stirred up by one of the most divided election seasons in history, but now is the time to come back together. We need to remember the fundamental truth that if we all did unto others, what we would have them do unto us, then everyone would be loved and cared for. This is the time of year when everyone needs extra love and support, and when even the best of us can get down at times. Taking a little extra time out of your day to give someone a kind word can be enough to change someone's outlook indefinitely. You never know when the seeds you plant will come to fruition, but the largest oaks still come from those tiny seeds. Take some time this season and plant some seeds of hope for others in need.
As for my interview this week, I had teased that I would be speaking to Ayanna DaCosta, the Director of Development for Vehicles for Change , but I ended up speaking with Simone Baptiste, their Director of Communications instead, and it was such a pleasant surprise. We had a wonderful conversation about a fascinating company that is making a real difference in people's lives. Their mission is to help end generational poverty and they do that not just through car donations, but also by giving training and second chances to formerly incarcerated individuals. I hope you find this conversation as captivating as I did, and maybe even motivating enough to get out there and help give back yourself this holiday season.

Welcome back to Awakened Exchanges! I’m your host Jay Rich and this is our third Thanksgiving episode for you! This whole month, I’m focusing on people who care for others. People that can show us how to be grateful all year round. We have an extra-special Thanksgiving Day episode planned where I’ll be speaking with Ayanna DeCosta, of Vehicles for change. We also have a Christmas Eve episode that I can’t wait for, but first we’re going to kick off our Holiday podcasts on December 3rd with a very fun conversation with Nick Hinton. He’s about to publish his second book and is going to share some very provocative theories about our perception of the universe. I can’t overstate how excited I am for him and our other December guests!
Since we’re focusing on healthcare for this episode, I want to at least address the Covid nightmare that we’re still enduring at this point. I just want to stress that this isn’t a joking matter. I can share the Fort Worth Star Telegram’s report of a 4-year old boy who lost his dad in June. His dad, who was 33, contracted it while training for a new job. And then, four months later, his 29-year-old mother contracted Covid and passed as well. Two young people are gone and now this 4-year-old will never know his parents. I know that wearing a mask seems like a silly thing, but if there’s any chance that it’ll help even slow the spread of this virus until we can get the most vulnerable people in our society vaccinated, then it’s worth the hassle. Both of the new vaccines require being kept frozen and one of which needs -70 celsius, which is not an easy thing to transport or store, especially when you need hundreds of millions of doses. Let’s get our healthcare workers vaccinated, then our elderly, and then we still have to hope that it’s effective for long enough that we can tamp this virus down. Until we’re closer to those goals, I don’t think that wearing a mask is an unreasonable request. Europe is already turning the corner on their rise in infections, and how did they do it? By locking things down again and restricting all of their citizens. Since Americans won’t go for that, maybe we should do some voluntary measures. We had over 180,000 new cases on Friday the 13th alone, and still at more than 165,000 as I write this on the 16th. We were at 30,000 or so per day when everyone was freaked out, but now it’s not a big deal? Of course we all want to get back to normal, but does that mean you should care less about those around you? I definitely don’t think so.
Apparently I found my rant for the week, but now that that’s said, I want to thank Charlotte Ash for joining me this week. She was the Executive Director of the Snake River Community Clinic, in Lewiston, ID for the last 20 years. Her clinic specializes in serving the uninsured and under-insured of southwest Washington and northwest Idaho. Despite her recent retirement, she agreed to step in this week and talk about her personal passion for helping others. She chose to devote the latter part of her career to helping those in need rather than expanding her pocketbook. We’re extremely grateful to have her on our show today.

Welcome back to Awakened Exchanges! I’m your host Jay Rich and this is our second Thanksgiving episode for you! This whole month, I’m focusing on people who care for others. People that can show us how to be grateful all year round. We have an extra-special Thanksgiving Day episode planned, as well as a Christmas episode that I’m super excited for! I hope to tease more information we get closer to recording, but all I’ll say for now is that our Christmas guest definitely helped Trek the Vote!
It’s finally been declared that Joe Biden is the President Elect, but that doesn’t appear to have calmed anything down across the country. The economy did take a big jump today, as I write this on the 9th, but who knows if that’ll last. I think a lot of us have figured out that the stock market is more of a barometer of how rich people are feeling than about any truth about how the world is running, but it’s what we have to go on. Since the country seems to be getting more optimistic, or at least those with money, then what are we doing to help those less fortunate? That seems to be a topic that a lot of people want to avoid during Covid. With the government giving us all a single $1200 check to cover for all of the businesses that have shut down, you’d think that they thought everything was fine. Our unemployment rate is supposedly down to 6.9% right now, but that doesn’t take into account those that have just stopped looking for work. Or how about those that have drained all of their savings trying to survive on less than full-time work? Personally, I’m very concerned about the restaurant industry and all they employ as they have already seen drastic closures and we’re headed into the winter months, with no outdoor seating, and Covid cases topping 130,000 per day, as of me writing this on the 9th. While the deaths may have dropped, the fear has not, and we’re not likely to get back into life as normal anytime soon as winter is already showing itself in many parts of the country. Please take the time to be thankful for what you have and think of ways that you can share with others. The gratitude you receive for your kind deeds can do your heart much more good than the cup of coffee you give up in exchange.
I want to thank Cameo Tamala for joining me this week. She’s the Executive Director of Operation Nightwatch Portland, which has been helping Portland’s unhoused community since 1981. They seek to provide an escape from the isolation, while also providing a cup of coffee, a meal, and mental health support, even when other such agencies have closed down. Living without shelter can be one of the loneliest experiences in life, feeling shunned and rejected with little or no hope. Operation Nightwatch is there to help provide not just a meal or a blanket, but to listen to their stories and give them a caring shoulder when it’s needed most. Cameo Tamala has spent nearly a decade driving change in the community. She has taken to heart the need to personally connect and embrace those she’s trying to help, as well as bringing her personal drive and passion to the fight, and we’re honored to have her on our show today.

Welcome back to Awakened Exchanges! I’m your host Jay Rich and we’ve got our first Thanksgiving episode for you today! This whole month, I plan to focus on people who care for others. People that can show us how to be grateful all year round.
I’m recording this on Election night, so I suppose I can stop telling people to get out and vote. That said, I don’t think we’re going to have an answer about who our next president is until after this episode airs, and maybe not until a while after. Maybe he’ll declare himself the victor early and refuse to concede? Or perhaps he’ll just keep the mail-in ballots from being counted via lawsuits? I could be totally wrong, but I am still worried about it all. That said, my hope is that after this election is finally over, we can start thinking about the fact that we’re all Americans and it’s time to do our best to salvage what is left of this American Dream. Our constitution was an inspired document, but it wasn’t meant to last forever. The founders knew that times changed and it was meant to be updated. The last meaningful amendment was 1971, nearly 50 years ago, and that was to allow 18 year-olds the right to vote so that we could keep drafting them to fight in Vietnam! Is this the legacy our founding fathers would want? I don’t believe so. As Thomas Jefferson said, “I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions, but laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors.” Has our society not progressed since 1971? Have there been no new discoveries or progress that’s worth noting in our constitution? No rights that need updated? Jefferson once said that “Every constitution then, and every law, naturally expires at the end of 19 years. If it be enforced longer, it is an act of force, and not of right" That’s right, 19 years! Maybe it’s time we rework the entire document and build into it the equality that we wish actually existed in today’s society.
That’s probably enough of that rant for today, but before we quickly get into the sponsors, I wanted to thank David Benedicktus for joining me for our first remote interview. He’s the cofounder of Cannabis Patients PNW, as well as a retired mental health professional. Before Covid, he was teaching a class at Clark College called Cannabis and Your Health, which is where we first crossed paths again in my adulthood. As well as talking about that class, we talk a lot about mental health, criminal justice reform, and the decline of our natural endocannabinoid system. He is a very knowledgeable individual with a fascinating story to tell. I’m glad to be introducing him to a lot of you and I hope you’ll find the information as fascinating and helpful as I did.

Before we get into this weeks’ interview, once again, I don’t care what side of the aisle you’re on, but we all need to get out and vote! If you want America to survive, we have a lot of work to do. Yesterday, America just got their 3rd Supreme Court Justice that was nominated by Donald Trump. That’s 3 people, and at least two of those could be considered the most controversial nominations in Supreme Court history, and they’re now in that position for life. RBG would be rolling in her grave at the Republican Party’s audacity. Telling America that 10 months was not enough to approve a nomination for Obama in an election year, but 5 weeks was plenty of time to confirm yet another a Republican nominee from the most controversial President in our nation’s history. I understand that half of you love what's been done, but if you ask yourself the question, "is it fair?” You’d be hard-pressed to give a logical reason as to why you believe it to be so. I know that we’re programmed to “win,” and it seems like it’s “win at all costs,” but have you ever asked yourselves why? What are we playing for? Who are you playing against? Why do we let both sides of the aisle pit us against one another instead of doing what’s best for all of us? And do you really think that no one born after 1962 has good ideas? The average age of the Members of the House at the start of this Congressional session was 57.8 years old. The Senators were even older, at 61.8 years. Donald Trump was already the oldest Inaugurated President when he was 70, and now we’re getting him at 74 or Biden at 78? What happened to JFK leading us towards a bold new future when he was 43 years old! JFK was 25 years old when Biden was born and frankly I’d rather have him now at 103 years old than either one of these true dinosaurs. Can’t we get some youth back in our politics? Are we trying to go back in time? Do you honestly think America was better in our past? Were things really better when we had separate drinking fountains or when our children were segregated for their education? Where is this “great America” that we’re getting back to? Would you please point it out to me so I know what we’re working towards?
Have I alienated enough people? Probably, so I guess I'll move on. Before we quickly get into the sponsors, I wanted to thank Elwin Herman for giving this wonderful interview. Her group, Seekers of the Stone, which meet at the Sacred Spiral Sanctuary in Ethel, WA, include a diverse group of people, including our former guest Shawn Shumway. They’re busy in preparation for the Samhain (Sah-wain) celebration, but she graciously made time for us this week. I hope that you find this conversation as fascinating as I did. Maybe in her next interview we can get more into the psychic phenomena and Edgar Cayce readings. Please forgive the clocks and a couple of animal interruptions, I think they’re mostly minimized.

Welcome back to Awakened Exchanges! I’m your host Jay Rich and we’ve got another special episode for you today. Before I go any further, I want to thank Shawn Shumway for finishing our intro and ad music for this episode. I think it makes the episodes feel even that more legit. Once again I’m recording this intro on a Wednesday as I try to make sure to hit our upload deadline tonight. I’m now aware that podcasting can a kind of a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants proposition, but I sure hope I can build a backlog this winter and get myself some breathing room. We’ve got some special episodes for you coming up for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. I’m going to leave them mostly secret for now, but I just want to say thank you to a special Twitter friend, for making a Star Trek Christmas special a real possibility. I’ll tease more information as we get closer to recording!
Before we get into our interview, I don’t care what side of the aisle you’re on, but we all need to get out and vote! We’re all Americans and we deserve to have our voices heard. If your side doesn’t “win,” then maybe we should stop thinking of it as a competition, and start thinking of it as playing clean up. If you want America to survive, we need to “drain the swamp,” and root out corruption in our Government. According to the Washington Post, “the president, who is exempt from government conflict-of-interest laws, refused to follow the practice of his predecessors in severing ties to his existing businesses or putting his assets in a blind trust. He retained ownership, ostensibly putting his two adult sons in charge while still enjoying the benefits of any profit.” Their research even shows that he’s spent one out of every three days on one of his properties, using nearly $1m in taxpayer dollars to do so, and that’s just what they’ve admitted to. According to Representative David Cicilline, a Democrat out of Rhode Island and a member of House leadership who serves on the Judiciary Committee, “This president has a habit of doing things out in the open, which are completely improper or even illegal and somehow the average person thinks, ‘Well, if he’s doing it out in the open it must be OK; I must not completely understand the rules.’ But it’s not.” As the Washington Post said, “Given Mr. Trump’s example, it is also no surprise that his administration is stacked with business insiders and lobbyists who shape policy to benefit the industries they once worked for — and likely will return to after their stint in government." That certainly doesn’t sound like rooting out corruption to me. It sounds like he’d rather fill the swamp to benefit himself. Promises made, promises kept? I think not.
Alright, that’s enough for now and I’m running low on time. Before we get into the sponsors, I wanted to thank Zac Mullins for stepping up and filling in for this week’s podcast. I truly hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did, we shared some good laughs and I’m looking forward to having him back on in the future. We touch a bit on a wide variety of topics including Ghosts, UFO’s, Bigfoot, and even Serial Killer psychology, by way of the Last Podcast on the Left.
