The Rooted Journey

Psalm 90 is a prayer for people learning to live faithfully in a world that never stops changing.  It begins with the greatness of God, confronts the brevity and brokenness of life, and teaches us to seek wisdom, receive mercy, and invest our lives in work that only God can make last.

Over these six weeks, we will invite God to deepen His work in us as we listen for what He wants to do through us.

Before we think about a place, we want to become a rooted people.

Before we ask what we should give, we want to remember what God has already given.

Before we consider what our hands can build, we will ask God to establish the work for His glory and for generations to come.

In a culture of endless options, we’ve learned to shop for almost everything, including church. We look for what fits our preferences, meets our needs, aligns with our values, and works with our schedules. When something no longer works for us, we move on.

At the same time, many people are questioning whether church is necessary at all. We can stream worship, listen to world-class teaching, and access spiritual content without ever leaving home. Others have been disappointed, hurt, or disillusioned by the church and wonder whether it still has anything meaningful to offer.

So why keep showing up? Why belong? Why commit ourselves to a community of imperfect people?

In a world where church can feel increasingly optional, we’re asking a fundamental question: Why church?

Drawing parallels from Sir Ernest Shackleton’s legendary Antarctic expedition aboard The Endurance, Executive Pastor, Dave Smith, will uncover how God uses an eternal perspective to anchor us when we are crushed by life's struggles and sufferings.
