This week's guest, Mark Thomas loved his career in the Police Force. Strong, capable and altruistic, it wasn't until late in his career as his mental health dived into a very dark place, he realised the impact of the cumulative effect of trauma in the line of duty. It became clear after his own diagnosis of PTSD that support for first responders suffering with PTSD and their families was difficult to find. Mark Thomas,
the founder of Code 9, truly felt that he was on his own in his fight and wanted to build a safe space to show others that they are never alone. What he did was create a safe place for first responders to talk, seek help and understand the need for self care and mental health initiatives. This episode contains discussion on suicidality and listener discretion is advised.
