SuperNova #1. "This pandemic has shown everyone how interconnected we all are, and how we really need to work together in every regard, especially to fight for our existence and overcome climate change. Clean energy is a great way to start moving in that direction."

SuperNova #2. "Private interest and corporate greed - this is why things aren't changing, why you see big oil, big tobacco and factory farming still reigning supreme, It all comes down to money and private interest."

SuperNova #3. "What's working is people voting with their dollars. Conscious consumers taking the power that they possess in their pocket, and putting it into companies that are doing good in the world."

Worst Clean Energy Moment – "We were hustling but not happy. We were grinding six months straight working 100 plus hour weeks to launch a tech startup, which was a very solid idea. We had interest from IBM, Microsoft and a bunch of other venture capitalists. We were soliciting a seven figure funding deal, got all the way to the money, and actually earned the contract for the seven figure funding deal. But we were just so burnt out, and we weren't happy. So we walked away. That was actually a catalyst and a turning point in both of our lives."

Ah-Ha: The Happy Hustle was born when we realized that we wanted to work with passion, purpose and positive impact while being happy within the hustle - so we created a whole proprietary framework around how to do so.

  • Game Changing the Roofing Industry with Sustainable, Eco-Friendly Green Roof Coatings - with Tatsuya 'Tats' Nakagawa of Castagra

Quantum Quote: "Escape competition through authenticity." - Tats Nakagawa

Are you tired of your roof always needing replacement and thinking of ways to prolong its life?

If you have an old or damaged flat roof, chances are you're exploring all your options to address the problem.

While a roof replacement is a great long-term solution, it's also an expensive one.

An eco-friendy roof coating can add years to the lifespan of your roof while costing much less than a roof replacement.

If you are looking for an eco-friendly roof coating and repair solution that can help you save money on roofing expenses, lower your energy costs, and reduce your carbon footprint - this episode is for you.

Tatsuya "Tats" Nakagawa is the Co-Founder and COO of Castagra, a manufacturer of sustainable roof coatings. Castagra's Ecodur roof coating is used by world-class companies such as General Mills, Tyson Foods, Sysco, the NFL, MLB, and McDonalds. Ecodur was also voted top "Greenvention" by the reality show Dragons' Den.

SuperNova #1. "I started to really question what I was promoting. Someone came and said that they wanted to promote this plastic thing. I looked at it and wondered - does the world really need another one of these? I started to raise my awareness on what we are doing and what we want to leave as a legacy."

SuperNova #2. "Our sustainable green roofing product allows you to just coat over top of an old roof and extend its life. That saves the client money, and it's also better for the environment."

SuperNova #3. "I love the gold standard of striving for the economic piece to be in line - because then you can approach mass adoption. I'm loving that a lot of these sustainable technologies are getting closer and closer- and some already save you money - even without subsidies. I'm really encouraged by that."

SuperNova #4. "For anyone that's innovating in this space, you always want to think about execution It's better to come in narrow and focused, and then later expand out to fill that need. It's tough for entrepreneurs, they think big and they want to change the world right away. But you have to think narrow and small to grow faster."

SuperNova #5. "Inside of each and every one of us, we have this brilliance, this untapped ability to make an impact. My question is: How do we get that out of ourselves? How do we forget about our fear? When I'm at the end of the line, I don't want to regret what I did - and part of that is the impact on the Earth, what we leave behind, and what we want to achieve while we're still here."

Worst Clean Energy Moment – "I remember going to tie my shoelaces, and I felt a pain in my stomach. It freaked me out because it hurt. When I came back from vacation, I went to the doctor and the doctor said - the long and short of it is that your body is falling apart. I was 252 pounds. I'm 5'1. That's quite overweight.

It gave me a huge wake up call. I asked myself - what have I been doing? I can't play the ignorance card, I know better. It just woke me up. I started eating healthier, or else I'm not gonna be around for my kids."

Ah-Ha: "I try to hold myself accountable. And I try to hang around people that will openly call me out if I start going in the wrong direction."

  • Stopping Natural Gas Leaks & Cutting Greenhouse Gas Emissions NOW using Community Geothermal Systems - with Audrey Schulman & Zeyneb Magavi, HeetMa

Quantum Quote: "We had identified methane as a greenhouse gas on steroids, with 84 times the impact of carbon dioxide in the first 20 years. If you cut methane, you get a bigger impact faster. It's a huge lever in a positive sense."

Did you know that some natural gas pipes were installed when Lincoln was President? And that there are thousands of utility-reported gas leaks in many old gas pipes around the country?

Energy efficiency is great for lowering emissions, and should always be our first choice. But building emissions are still high. The culprit? Natural gas used for heating our buildings, hot water, and cooking.

How do we transition off natural gas while maintaining reliable and affordable heat - and keeping local jobs?

Audrey Schulman & Zeyneb Magavi are the Co- executive Directors of the Home Energy Efficiency Team Massachusetts (Heet MA) organization. They first started in 2008 when a handful of local people were terrified by climate change. They organized work parties on weekends to cut emissions and energy bills by making their homes more energy-efficient, and eventually created HEET.

They are now on a mission to create the biggest energy shift: Providing thermal energy to homes & buildings with community geothermal boreholes that are connected by a shared loop - using the rights-of-way of the natural gas utilities.

In this episode, Audrey and Zeyneb talk about the danger of gas leaks in our communities. How we are still using old gas pipes that were installed 100-200 years ago. They also talk about community geothermal heating and cooling systems that replace leaking gas pipes in a more natural way that is not only safer for everyone - but helpful to the environment as well.

Sign up for the free 60-minute AWESome EarthKind™ Clean Energy Demonstration to discover 3 simple actions you can take to start saving money and make the world a better place – without having to learn complex technology.

SuperNova #1: [on Gas stove poisoning the air in your house] "Burning gas produces carbon monoxide. People don't necessarily turn on their hoods, and their hoods may not be connected outside. Most houses are often air sealed, particularly in the winter. If you have a gas stove, the chances of childhood asthma increases by 40%. Whenever you turn on your gas stove, always make sure you have proper ventilation, either with the stove hood or fans & open windows."

SuperNova #2: [How our generation is still using the old natural gas pipe system.] "Some of the natural gas pipes were put in the ground in Lincoln's presidency. They are still there and still working, which is actually kind of incredible. However, like other problems with old infrastructure, the gas pipes are leaking and can cause catastrophic explosions."

SuperNova #3: [Using induction cooktops for a more convenient, healthy lifestyle.] "Induction cooktops are faster, more precise, more efficient, cleaner and healthier. The induction only heats up your pan. There's no external heat. So you don't have to worry about a young or older person getting burned. There are no emissions, so you don't have to worry about the carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides. The air quality in your home is better."

SuperNova #: "We saw we had a process already in place. We were going into our communities, ripping up the streets, taking out the old gas pipe and spending money on putting new gas lines in. So we said, well, if we pull out that branch, What could we do instead?. We wanted it to be safer, lower cost, zero emissions, equitable, & accessible to everyone. We wanted to keep good jobs for the workers. We came up with the idea of interconnecting geothermal vertical boreholes and delivering temperature to the customer homes where a heat pump is waiting to pull off either heating or cooling for their homes."

SuperNova #5: [The use of Geothermal Boreholes] "Basically, it's a little mini geothermal heating system. So you're just drilling holes, you're letting the earth heat this fluid, and then you pass in the fluid around to the various different homes and whoever else is in the neighborhood."

SuperNova #6: "At the time that I began, this was just feeling a little bit powerless to affect the change that was needed. I saw the scale of the change needed for my children's future - for all children's future, for this awesome world. It's a great world. And we're not doing right by it right now. I just didn't have the capacity personally. What I had to learn was that I could do something about it if I worked with a large network of other people. And if we just opened ourselves to the risk of trying and really imagining what could be. And, I'm demanding that our imagination for that future be not just okay - but better."

  • Creating Environmental Awareness & Change via Mass Media with Jason Evans of Xploration Awesome Planet

Quantum Quote: "I am always intrigued by the resistance to change, especially with clean energy. We can get rid of coal & oil. We really can. We just need the willingness to adapt".

Do you want to take action to protect wildlife and reduce pollution?

Do you want limits put on carbon pollution, action on climate change, and a faster transition to clean energy?

Mass media plays a big role in creating clean energy and environmental awareness. Keeping humankind entertained, while keeping us informed.

Jason Evans is the founder of the Maui-based production company, Silvershark Media, with a strong background in storytelling. Silvershark produces national campaigns, marketing videos, and webisodes. In the television realm they've had a hand in producing content for FOX, Travel Channel, Discovery Channel, Food Network, Golf Network, TLC, HGTV, among other networks.

Jason has been involved in the TV industry since 2000 is a 4x Emmy Nominee for the Best Daytime Travel Series. He is the producer for Xploration Awesome Planet (a Steve Rotfeld Productions featuring Philippe Cousteau, grandson of the legendary Jacques Cousteau) geared toward 13 to 19 year olds.

In this episode, Jason talks about how our way of living affects the natural habitat and the wild animals living around us, and how every decision we have has a connection to the changes that every living creature on earth is experiencing right now. He also shares how mass media helps humankind be entertained and informed about ongoing policies from the comfort of their home.

Announcement: The Season 6 of Awesome Planet has just started to premiere. Please support.

SuperNova #1: [Our lifestyle affects wild-life] Whether it be contaminated water that is endangering populations of certain animals or whether it be development, it's all connected together.

SuperNova #2: United Technologies is working on an Otis Elevator that uses only 10% of the electricity of current elevators. It uses the hybrid idea of regenerative braking to capture the energy of the elevator going down and uses that energy to bring the elevator back up.

SuperNova #3: [Characteristic of wild-life in their natural habitat] In this case, a shark. Sharks are not mindless killers. When you do free swims, you see them in their natural habitat. Some people might have hesitation when they don't see 20 sharks rushing right up to them. Maybe they have a different perspective of sharks in the wild. It's really a conservation approach through emotion and inspiration.

SuperNova #4: [Having a Younger Generation knowledgeable about the importance of clean energy]. The younger generation (that's now not so young anymore), is entering & maturing in the workforce, and coming with a heavy hand of 'Hey, we don't have to always do things like they used to be done.' That's going to be an important thing to see these young leaders really push the capabilities of what's possible [in using clean energy].

Worst Clean Energy Moment: I love seafood, and working on an Earth Science show I learned about where my food is sourced from. When you look into seafood, you can certainly find areas that are wrecking reefs, wrecking habitats, wrecking ecosystems, wrecking mangroves. I became more conscious of what I was buying at restaurants and trying to make sure - as much as I could - that everything was done sustainably because I know that everything's related whether it be storm protection, whether it be ecosystem habitat, whether it be keeping our waters in a clean state by not wrecking oyster beds and filter feeders.

Ah-Ha: Paying attention to what I was purchasing, and really taking that extra step to be informed and not just blindly taking what I wanted.

Best Advice: The best advice I ever received was not to be scared of the word, no.

Personal Success: I'm very organized. Organization to me is one of my traits that I am proud of, and I think absolutely contributes to workflow success and future success.

Internet Resources: BBC Science; Outside Online

Book Recommendation: The Old Man and The Sea by Ernest Hemingway

Magic Wand: If I could change one thing with a magic wand, I would eliminate the fossil fuel industry and instantly convert it to something better. There's so much impact on air pollution, water contamination to our drinking waters, not to mention just burning, burning, burning all these resources. That would be one wand swipe that could knock out a lot of different problems.

WTF or F: Done a couple of really, really heavy cold-weather things above the Arctic Circle. To me, that was the most intriguing weather that I've experienced personally. Negative 40 negative 50 - barely no daylight at nine o'clock, or you get basically a sunset hue for two hours. And then it's dark again, which takes some adjustment getting used to.

One thing that Energizes Jason today: The one thing I'm most energized about today is tomorrow. I think that we have such potential and a rolling ball of momentum. Seeing the private sector take on a lot of these challenges (clean energy), and say we're not waiting around any more - that excites me.

Parting Advice: If you have the influence to help give sparks to younger generations - do so and give opportunities. I think it goes a long way. And for me that's that's one thing that I really kind of take pride in and try to focus on. Telling the stories of up and coming youth leaders that are going to be our leaders of tomorrow, and also telling the stories of people that inspire those youth leaders to get involved in the first place. So my advice is: if you can give that spark to anyone, it goes a long way.

  • Healthy Clean Cities - with Rich Kassel of Capalino, an Urban Strategy Firm

Quantum Quote: "Anybody who tells you they know what the future is going to be in 10 years is either lying to you or they're lying to themselves."

Over half of all the people in the world currently live in cities - and the number is expected to increase to two-thirds of the world by 2050.

Cities need large amounts of energy, water, food - and transportation - for millions of people every day.

How can we create sustainable, healthy, and environmentally-friendly cities?

Rich Kassel has been a leader in the environmental community for more than three decades, including 21 years as a Senior Transportation Attorney at the Natural Resources Defense Council. He works with new and established companies and non-profit groups to develop low-carbon, sustainable business strategies and to facilitate the adoption of innovative building, energy, resiliency, transportation and water technologies.

He also currently co-chairs the US EPA's technical review subcommittee on transportation and air quality issues, and serves on the boards of several environmental organizations.

In this episode, Rich talks about sustainable clean-energy driven cities where everyone can experience a healthier life and a clean, pollution-free environment.

He also talks about decarbonisation. Where passenger vehicles are all electric; heavy-duty vehicles use low or zero carbon fuels; and big companies and industries use clean energy for their electricity, heat and transportation.

Sign up for the free 90-minute AWESome EarthKind™ Clean Energy Demonstration to discover 3 simple actions you can take to start saving money and make the world a better place – without having to learn complex technology.

SuperNova #1: [Electric Vehicle vs. Liquid Fuels]. "People should think first: what is the goal? Electrification or decarbonisation? How you answer that leads you to a different solution. For me, it's decarbonisation. The key is to not pick the technology, but to pick the outcome."

SuperNova #2:"Electrification and decarbonisation are both useful in their own way. If you're going in for light-duty family cars, commuting cars, passenger cars, that is for electrification. It's different with a heavy duty truck or bus. As the engines get bigger and the duty cycles get harder, electrification becomes harder, and the answer starts to be much more around decarbonizing the fuel."

SuperNova #3: "People can do a lot to help companies succeed in their decarbonisation journey. A lot of people might not want to be vegetarian, but your burger is one of the biggest carbon contributions of your daily life. Be mindful of your choices and support policies that will help us decarbonize."

Worst Clean Energy Moment: " had a lunchtime debate with the head policy guy for the South African oil company. We went on with 200 people in the audience, and it was great. I scored my points. I was smart. And I had a response to anything he said, and so on, so forth...

Afterwards, as he and I were walking out of the room, he said to me, 'You know, Rich, you can't beat me. Today's Tuesday, I'm willing to bet by Monday, you're going to be back at your desk in New York and I'm going to be here, lobbying parliament against everything you just said. You can't beat me from a desk in New York."

It was a kick in the gut. But it was an important lesson about the importance of boots on the ground and recognizing that, when you take on an issue, you have to be willing to dedicate the resources that it's going to take to really achieve your goals."

Ah-Ha: When I realized that in order to convert the MTA fleet to a cleaner fuel, I would have to spend my whole life waging 19 different ground wars to convert 19 different depots across their system, one by one by one. Instead, we focused on fuel-neutral, technology-neutral solutions that were outcome-based. We reduced pollutants by 95%, and created a new model that is now used around the world.

Best Advice: Set your goal, stick to it and trust yourself.

Personal Success: I really like to ride a bike to figure stuff out. At least once - and usually twice a week - I get on a bike for two or three hours. I actually spend most of my time thinking about whatever vexing problem I have. By the end of the ride, I usually know what to do.

Magic Wand: I got three. 1: Wave the magic wand and we have solved climate change, as it is the existential threat that we face. 2: Go back to my early days and really focus my environmental advocacy around health issues. 3: I have dinner with Bruce Springsteen one night, and we have a good long talk because his music and his words have been the soundtrack of much of my life.

WTF or F: I grew up by the beach.I used to love going out to the beach to watch the waves and watch the clouds.I have so many vivid memories of specific hurricanes and tropical storms as they came towards the south shore of Long Island or other beaches.

One thing that Energizes Rich today: Today, Monday, November 9. I'm just super energized by Joe Biden. On a deeper level, I'm really energized about the next generation.

Parting Advice: Stick to it,.Think about what we want to achieve, whether that's energy or otherwise. Keep rowing the boat in that direction and know that with each day, we get a little bit closer.

SuperNova #1: [Aren't EV's and solar are too expensive than fossil fuels?] "What we have is an imbalance in value sets. In fossil fuels, you have to create secure shipping lanes and channels, and you expand emissions. We don't have a level playing field, because when it comes to solar energy, you don't have those issues. Nobody's ever attacked a solar farm or created a war over a solar farm. So there's an imbalance in the costs allocated to the different energy sources"

SuperNova #2: [What people should watch for when they move to clean energy?] "Nothing. Solar is the fastest-growing industry in the world today. Jobs are being lost in coal, jobs are being lost in oil - but jobs are not being lost in solar. That's for sure."

Worst Clean Energy Moment: My worst moment was when I had to sell off a part of the company that was no longer sustainable and 30 jobs were affected.

Ah-Ha: In 1999, I sat in front of an iMac. And I looked at it and I went: "iSun", and registered the brand before the iPod, iPad, iPhone, or everything else "i". Then we launched the original iSun solar mobile charger with the sun brand in 2002. We went to Radio Shack and they said: "when can we have it and how many?" It was amazing.

Best Advice: Listen more than you speak.

Personal Success: Tenacity - don't quit.

Book Recommendation: The Power Of Intention By Dr. Wayne W. Dyer

Magic Wand: No more fossil fuels.

WTF or F: Ice storm in Montreal in 2002. It was horrendous. All the power was knocked out. And that was a moment I said, 'If only we had solar on our home and a battery, life would have changed. No food would have been lost, we would have stayed in the home instead of moving out.'

One thing that Energizes Sass today: The adoption rate of clean energy and clean mobility is going up every day. And that energizes me.

Parting Advice: Don't quit. If you have a dream, go for it and be tenacious about it. Understand you're going to have setbacks. There is no straight line to success.

  • High Impact Clean Energy Community Action - with Jeffrey Domanski of Community Choice Aggregation

Quantum Quote: "Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) is something that brings in a beautiful win-win scenario. It's a program that allows towns, cities and villages to pass a local law, decide how they want to administer the program to get their power, and then go out into the marketplace with all that aggregate demand to purchase renewable electricity - and get it for less than people have been paying for dirty power."

What if you can join together with your community to have a sustainable source of energy?

What if you can help with climate change and provide your children with a better place to live?

Do you want to use your buying power in cooperation with your community to aggregate demand and gain leverage to negotiate better electricity rates with competitive suppliers and choose greener power sources?

Jeffrey Domanski has worked for more than 25 years as a multi-disciplined environmental professional focused on sound economic development and resource conservation strategies in the built environment. He is also the executive director of a nonprofit called the Center for Economic and Environmental Partnership.

In this episode, Jeffrey talks about how Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) programs allow communities to procure power on behalf of their residents, businesses, and municipal accounts from an alternative supplier - while still receiving transmission and distribution service from their existing utility provider in a more wholesome, environment-friendly, no-hassle way - with less expense and many consumer safeguards and cost advantages.

CCAs are an attractive option for communities that want more local control over their electricity sources, more green power than is offered by the default utility, and/or lower electricity prices.

SuperNova #1: "A very common question that we get from people is, 'Are you replacing my utility?' A lot of people have an interesting relationship with their utility. But most people are concerned about losing reliability With a CCA, they keep the utility's distribution and reliability - but now have a better, more environmentally responsible, and less expensive electricity supply."

SuperNova #2: "[on CCA's consumer protection ] It's simple. You're not locked into anything, you can opt-in and opt-out at will.

SuperNova #3: "We're [Community Choice Aggregation] a resource to the community, to make sure that they know what's happening with the programs and how it compares to what's happening in the marketplace, what's coming on the horizon, and what they should be looking for."

SuperNova #4: Nine states – California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island and Virginia – have enacted Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) legislation that empowers local governments to aggregate the electricity loads of residents, businesses, and/or municipal facilities. In 2016, community choice aggregations sold 8.7 billion kilowatt-hours of green power to 3.3 million customers. A number of other states are also exploring CCAs. Worst Clean Energy Moment: "I'd say it was kind of the arc of the career. It was a bit of an extended bad moment where I'd worked for a number of years as a technical resource, a technocrat of sorts, and recognized that we were not changing the world that we worked in."

Ah-Ha: "That sad realization about the way people think and act on environmental and energy issues was also coupled with that aha moment about how to change behavior - and that's really had an impact."

    Best Advice: "Have low expectations."

Personal Success: "Good record keeping and project management."

Magic Wand: "I just want to just put a bubble around my kids in a very unobtrusive way, just to protect them. Because they're phenomenal people. I got two kids. And I can't wait to see the impact they have on the world."

WTF or F: "A nominally downpouring experience of hiking the Adirondacks."

One thing that Energizes Jeff today: 'Being a crazed evangelist about behavioral strategies."

Parting Advice: "Remember that we are storytelling animals. If you want somebody to be moved - tell a story. That's really essential. That is how we remember and what motivates and moves us. And so that's a really worthwhile effort."

  • Media Leader & Electric Car Groundbreaker - with Rob Greenlee, Libsyn

Quantum Quote: "As we rolled into the future, I saw technology starting to develop, I'm a technologist and kind of a green energy geek. I love technology around creative ways to generate electricity and make the transformation away from fossil fuels over the long term."

How would you feel if you were one of the first adopters of the 'cars from the future'?

Imagine being involved in the baby stages of an electric car revolution -- traveling during the time when electric driving wasn't that popular yet...

Rob Greenlee, VP of Content and Partnerships at Libsyn.com and LibsynPro.com, is a well-known evangelist of the podcasting industry. He is working with content creators, platforms like Spotify, Google, and the big listening platforms around the world.

In this episode, Rob talks about being one of the early adopters/owners of electric cars. He shares how scifi TV shows influenced him to buy his very first electric vehicle -- a Nissan Leaf - and what inspired him to be an advocate of the clean energy electric car revolution.

SuperNova #1: "If you go very back to my childhood, I kept seeing TV shows talking about the future. Space 1999 was a good example. When I was a little kid, they had an electric vehicle in that TV series. It had a bubble shaped vehicle that - back in the 80's - was like looking into the future."

SuperNova #2: "I only paid $34,000 for my first LEAF. When the Model S came out, they said it was only going to be like $49,000, but when it was released, it was more like $110,000. So I'm glad I didn't put down my $5000 down payment on a Tesla. But I did proceed to buy a bunch of Tesla stocks for $26 bucks when it went public. So, I'm a proud beneficiary of Tesla stock now."

SuperNova #3: "The early model LEAF didn't have environmental controls of the battery compartment area to keep the lithium batteries cool. That was one of the downsides of the LEAF at the time (but it's been corrected now). What it does is create a difference in the capacity of the battery at different times of the year. In the Seattle area, where I lived, there was a lot of fluctuation in the seasons and temperature.

Worst Clean Energy Moment: When the auxiliary battery died it would cause the dashboard to flicker on and off.

Ah-Ha: The first time he drove an electric car. Fast, Quiet. Cool.
