Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring "Jesus bleibet meine Freude" is based on a chorale setting from the cantata, "Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben, BWV 147."

This famous piece is part of a "Hunting Cantata" by J.S. Bach: "Was mir behagt, ist nur die muntre Jagd, BWV 208." Originally sung as part of a birthday celebration, it is now frequently sung at weddings and church services.

Robert Schumann and his family lived in Leipzig, the same city where J.S. Bach had lived. He was very much influenced by the compositions of Bach. He wrote a set of organ pieces on Bach's name: "6 Fugues on B.A.C.H., Op.60."

The Greek prayer, "Kyrie, eleison,"is the Septuagint translation of the

phrase found often in Psalms (Psalm 31:9, Psalm 86:16, etc.)
