Ayurvedic Medicine: Finding Healing in Everyday Life

Amita Nathwani is the owner of Surya Health and Wellness which focuses on nutritional consulting that is rooted in Ayurvedic medicine. She also is a faculty member with the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine Fellowship at Banner Health, University of Arizona and Faculty at the Phoenix Institute of Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture. She uses her unique perspective of both her traditional Indian Ayurvedic education and western applications to keep the purity of Ayurvedic practices, while applying them in a modern approach. She specializes in Digestive disorders and finding solutions based on diet, lifestyle and your mind and body connection.

In today's episode, host Shay Beider welcomes Amita to discuss her approach to Ayurvedic medicine. She shares her psycho-spiritual approach to medicine, and how to learn about yourself in a fast paced world. She defines the three doshas of Ayurveda: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha and what people can do to work with their health. Amita talks about the importance of understanding your nature, and how this can lead to different adaptations of Ayurveda. They discuss the benefits of Ambiaga, a self oil massage and how to incorporate this into your daily routine. She also shares her personal experience dealing with grief after the loss of her husband and some of the lessons she has learned. Her book "Peaks and Valleys" was written describing her journey through life and loss.
