This song is one of the most intimate lyrics I've ever written back in the early 90ies. And I still feel the same way. Fred and I composed this song together for our band called AlFred &the ASC at that time. The string arrangement was made a few years after the original recording by Alain Caron, famous keyboard player of canadian band UZEB, we met in a recording studio near Montréal. It was an awesome experience.

So for most people who always see me smile, this is who I am most of the time. When I smile, it's because I'm happy to see your faces that tear me out of my sadness. Thank you for that ;)

PS: the painting was made by one of my mother's best friends right after my mom had her first cancer relapse. Her name is Christa, and she said. "I was expecting a colourful picture full of joy, the way I experience you when we sit and talk, but strangely this melancholy and deep sadness imposed while I was painting" She saw right trough me....

So this is the track that might remind some people of a certain period of time. Fred wrote part of this song and we worked on it in the studio with Djaimin and a guy from Jamaica called Brian Allen, who was also our manager at that time. But it was Pascal Brunko's remix that made the difference and pushed us to no1 in the Dance Charts that summer. We went from one huge gig to another, played in all the great Clubs all over Spain and had a really good time. But like so many dance tracks it didn't last for more than a year, and as our manager disappeared with all the money, we went right back to square one. Fred said to me that day: "he can take all the money, but he can't take our inspiration." In the end, we were happy with both our kids and every day full of adventure, so it didn't take us very long to get back on track....And that's only one of the million stories of our bohemian musician life :D

My first studio gig as I came to Switzerland in 1990 was for this song written by Djaimin' and his girlfriend (she did the lyrics). I didn't know it would be a worldwide dance hit at that time and also lounch Djaimin's career as a DJ. In 2006 we did a new version for Purple Records. It hasn't been the version that's been pushed by the lable at that time, but we had a great review by a british magazine. Again! Typical Fred style with awesome funky guitar and bass licks. And me going crazy on the backing vocals. What a blast!

This is a track we wrote back in 2002 with Fred. Soundengineer is the great Pascal Brunko who was also responsable for our breakthrough no1 dance hit "Live your life" in 2001.

The awesomest bassline played by Fred, as well as the funky wah guitar parts! Irresistible remix of Djaimin's "My family" with a little "Earth, Wind and Fire"-feel! Good memories!
