On 24th September 2023, James Muhia and Cheruiyot Kirui made history by becoming the first Kenyans & Africans, to summit an 8,000m mountain without using supplemental oxygen and also without using Sherpa support. They successfully climbed Manaslu (8,163m), the 8th highest mountain in the world.

Wang'oe Mtuhuru aka, Freeman, is an Ultra Runner and Trail Runner. He accomplished one of the toughest mountain challenges in Africa that is, The Virunga Challenge. He ran up and down 3 Virunga Mountains (Mount Muhabura, Mount Gahinga and Mount Sabyinyo) all in just 11 hours and 23 minutes. A total distance of 42KM and a 4,000m elevation gain. An incredible feat!
We recorded this brief episode in Kampala, Uganda after we did our different versions of the challenge. The hiker's version of the Virunga Challenge is hiking the 3 mountains in 3 days.
