In Episode 15 of BACHTALK I get to interview an friend of mine, Zack Shannon. I met Zack in 2010 when we both did a New Years Disney Baseball tournament. I will be honest, I still have not met anyone with as natural a talent in Baseball as Zack Shannon. The only thing he might be better at than baseball is fishing. He explains why baseball players need an escape from baseball in order to compete at a high level. He is currently playing for Single A affiliate Kane County Cougars. Please join me in hearing about how Zack has grown into a person that has learned to embrace his full potential. Remember ---Always be yourself.
I cannot begin to tell you how interesting it was to speak with Granden Goetzman on this episode of Backtalk. Goetzman has been in professional baseball for 9 years.
He was drafted out of high school in the 2nd round in 2011 and never looked back. If you want to hear firsthand of the absolute strength and resolve a person needs to survive and thrive in the absolute grind that is minor league baseball, this is the episode for you. Goetzman is such a straight forward and honest person who shares how he has been able to get through injury and disappointment to double his career high HR's this season with the Houston Astros AA affiliate in Corpus Christi TX. Granden Goetzman embodies the Backtalk moto of "Be Yourself". It was an honor to get to know him.
Episode 13 of BachTalk is with Cameron Scott. Cam just recently started a job with the Baseball Commissioners office. Cam, a former player at High Point University has had a series of the most interesting baseball internships from rookie ball in the Appalachian league, to tech and scouting with the Mets in Player Development to Baseball Ops Intern with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Cam has the career start that I aspire to! What an impressive guy. This was one of the most interesting interviews I have had to date. I apologize for the spotty quality of the recording but I can assure you, Cam is worth listening to. Remember to always be yourself.
Well---We are at a dozen Episodes of Bachtalk! I could not think of a better guest than my friend Lyon Richardson. Lyon is a RHP with the Cincinnati Reds Organization. He is currently playing with the Dayton Dragons Low A affiliate where he is showing some great numbers. I met Lyon while he was playing rookie ball with the Greeneville Reds. Lyon is a former two way player and self-taught pitcher that has a great amount of natural talent. He tells us what he is doing to get the most out of his talents as he move up in the organization. I hope you enjoy this episode recorded while he was driving to Dayton from some away games. These guys are so busy that you take what you can get! Always Remember, Be Yourself!
How lucky am I to have RHP Matt Rupenthal of the Houston Astros organization as my guest for this episode of Bachtalk. Coming off the heals of Vanderbilt University' s win of the College World series last week, we get to hear first hand what it is like to be a pitcher in that prestigious program. Matt is currently in his second professional season having recently come off unexpected elbow surgery. He is off to a great start this year with the Quad Cities River Bandits (Class A Full Season). I hope you enjoy meeting Matt as much as I did. You be be hearing a lot from him in the future. Remember Always Be Yourself.
I am so excited for all of you to meet Justin Rocke here in the 10th episode of BachTalk. Justin Rocke was the 2019 Broadcaster of the year for the Appalachian league. If you think "How hard could it be to broadcast a baseball game ?" Than I invite you to listen to this talented, very hard working guy explain in vivid detail what it is really like to be a minor league broadcaster. The sky is the limit for Justin and I hope you enjoy our conversation. Remember, Be Yourself.
In Episode 8 of BachTalk, I get to reconnect with another great guy I got to know last year with the Greenville Reds.
Jerry D'Andrea is an extremely likable and hard working left handed pitcher in the Cincinnati Reds organization. He is currently playing with the Dayton Dragons in low A after being signed by the reds last year.
What is really interesting about Jerry is that he is one of the few players to be signed out of a D III college. He gives an in insight into how that happened and some advice to those hoping to hake it happen for themselves.
We also have a few laughs about D III baseball practices and Rookie ball food. Always remember, BE YOURSELF!
