Backpacking America

June 4th is Killdozer Day! The anniversary of the June 4th 2004 attack that destroyed the town of Granby, Colorado. Listen as I retell the story of a reasonable man driven to unreasonable means. What do you think, is he a hero to the little guy or a menace to society?

I then talk about Memorial Day's History. How the first one was held May 1st 1865 by newly freed slaves and Black Regimental Veterans. The celebration became national on May 5th 1868 organized by the Great Army of the Republic. Then I go into the History of 4/20 and its connections to the Grateful Dead, which I will leave it there for now so you listen. It is really a great story. For the full article my retelling is based off of, visit here: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/420-meaning-the-true-stor_n_543854

Have you ever wondered why so many takes are garbage? Or why social media activism is so fake and regurgitated? And why does no one read, and if they do why do they not interact with the material critically? These are many questions I ask myself daily and complain about on this episode of Backpacking America. Dear listener, you are not alone in asking these questions!

Sadly there is no "Have You Heard This?" segment for this episode. I had to get this out as soon as possible because I was gone for so long. Please forgive me.

This episode talks about concerns regarding unionization, the hazardous conditions workers faced before and during the pandemic, and the inevitable victories unions have brought workers who banded together. Unions have provided fellow working people with a beam of hope that makes a future without starvation wages and poor conditions ever more possible. One picket line at a time...

Why would you pay money to stream cable that has ads? Seriously, why? I also talk about why media is reflective of society, and why parents need to play a role in preventing their kids from being over exposed.

What do our national symbols mean when we discuss the reality of life in America? Does the flag still hold affinity, or is it a far gone symbol? Are American ideals compatible with Socialism, and do our ideals reflect the reality of our governing structure and laws?

In this special episode of BPA I return to the format I know and love the most. LIVE RADIO (sort of). I live streamed on twitch and played some music when I wasn't talking about why I hate twitter, graffiti, or discussing my favorite beers. Come hang out and celebrate this amazing feat. I could not have done it without your listenership and support!
