Backpacking America

After a brief Hiatus I discuss the latest in the Israel-Palestine Conflict, the Housing Crisis, Increased Food Costs and the need for America to focus on our problems at home instead of problems around the world.

Author of "Richard Nixon California's Native Son" Paul Carter joins me to discuss the Presidency and Life of Richard Nixon, as well as what motivated him to document President Nixon's life.

Find "Richard Nixon California's Native Son" here: https://www.amazon.com/Richard-Nixon-Californias-Native-Son/dp/1640125604

Read about Paul Carter's Book below!

"Modern biographies of Richard Nixon have been consumed with Watergate. All have missed arguably the most important perspective on Nixon as California’s native son, the only U.S. president born and raised in California. In addition, Nixon was also a son, brother, friend, husband, father, uncle, and grandfather. By shifting the focus from Watergate and Washington to Nixon’s deep, defining roots in California, Paul Carter boldly challenges common conceptions of the thirty-seventh president of the United States.

More biographies have been written on Nixon than any other U.S. politician. Yet the territory traversed by Carter is unexplored, revealing for the first time the people, places, and experiences that shaped Richard Nixon and the qualities that garnered him respect from those who knew him well.

Born in Yorba Linda and raised in Whittier, California, Nixon succeeded early in life, excelling in academics while enjoying athletics through high school. At Whittier College he graduated at the top of his class and was voted Best Man on Campus. During his career at Whittier’s oldest law firm, he was respected professionally and became a chief trial attorney. As a military man in the South Pacific during World War II, he was admired by his fellow servicemen. Returning to his Quaker roots after the war, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, the Senate, and the vice presidency, all within six short years. After losing to John Kennedy in the 1960 presidential campaign, Nixon returned to Southern California to practice law. After losing his gubernatorial race he reinvented himself: he moved to New York and was elected president of the United States in 1968. He returned to Southern California after Watergate and his resignation to heal before once again taking a place on the world stage.

Richard Nixon: California’s Native Son is the story of Nixon’s Southern California journey from his birth in Yorba Linda to his final resting place just a few yards from the home in which he was born."

Hamas brutally killed, assaulted, and kidnapped the Israeli civilian population on October 7th 2023. This is a stark contrast to their main focus on attacking the Israeli Defense Forces.

I reflect on my former support of Palestine, and how the events of October 7th, and the coinciding Day of Jihad declared on October 13th, encouraged this anti-Palestine stance.

In particular, the motivations for this discussion are prompted by Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran making threatening calls against the citizenry of the United States of America.

While I am not a fan of foreign intervention, funding, training or support of wars and countries not our own, it is not too hard to be morally repulsed by the depraved barbarity of Hamas towards a civilian population.

Further, it is of grave importance that the American people be fully alert, aware, and informed of International developments concerning the parties involved. It is even more important to be aware of your immediate surroundings. If you see something, say something.

Microsoft is suing Google claiming it is a monopoly over search engines and Artificial Intelligence.

What's really going on is Microsoft coping like a little b*tch that their search engine Bing is TRASH compared to Google Chrome.

The United Auto Workers (UAW) go on strike against Ford, Stellantis & General Motors for a laundry list of reasons.

A restructuring of the Tier System, a 32 hour work week, 36% wage increase over 4 years, limiting use of temporary workers & paying UAW members to do community service when a manufacturing plant closes down.

I go over a brief history of US-Canadian Border disputes. The most recent one flaring up from 1992-1997 when fishermen of both nations would be arrested from crossing into the other nations waters to fish for Salmon.

This came to a head in 1997 when Canadian Fishermen blocked off a ferry heading back to Alaska, blocking those passengers and any travel to and from the port for 6 days.

Read more about the incident here: https://www.bbc.com/travel/article/20191215-the-little-known-us-canada-border-war

LinkedIn has a horrible reputation of encouraging an unhealthy balance between work and life. I look at some posts I found on LinkedIn and posts shared on other social platforms that don't do the platform justice.

Jessica Burgess of Nebraska, pleaded guilty to giving her 17 year old daughter a pill to medically terminate her pregnancy at 24 weeks. Nebraska has limited Abortion procedures to 20 weeks in the Post-Roe Era.

What particularly disturbed me about this case is the prosecution using very charged and harsh language to chastise the defense over an action that just one year ago was perfectly legal and standard.
