  • That Time We Ruined a Wedding (Perry Ritter Interview 2 of 2)
Continuing our "friends of the family" interview with Lexington's Perry Ritter, we discuss his involvement with Derek's upcoming full band efforts with Sempervivi. Make sure to check out the first episode if you missed it, where we learn more about Perry's independent solo efforts and his "Mine Heart" LP.

We also talk about the wedding we possibly/probably ruined during our sets at this year's East Bridge Art and Music Festival. Congratulations to the happy couple! Hopefully we'll also be a fun story for them years down the road...

Keep an eye on our website and social media channels for important announcements this week! We'll be giving details around our upcoming releases for the rest of 2016, including (but not limited to) Why They Came's "Holy War Hymnal" LP and a new music video for "Up the Wrong Tree!"

Andy, Brandon, and Bethany will be performing at Tidball's in Bowling Green on Wednesday, September 28th for part of #JuJuJam (a week long fundraiser for 12-year-old Ju Wooldridge who is currently fighting leukemia). Our sets will start around 8 PM. E-mail [email protected] or contact @tidballs on Twitter for details.

  • Like a Thing of Bricks (Perry Ritter Interview 1 of 2)
In another "friends of the family" episode, Brandon and Derek get Perry Ritter on the phone. Perry is a solo artist from Lexington, KY who recently started playing second guitar with Derek in Sempervivi. We met him at this year's East Bridge Art and Music Festival where he performed solo and with Derek, and we immediately wanted to introduce him to our listeners.

Perry discusses his 2014 independently released LP entitled "Mine Heart" which can be streamed or purchased at http://perryritter.bandcamp.com as well as iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby, and more. We discuss songwriting as a young teenager, what it's like looking back on earlier material as a more mature artist, and the pros and cons of performing as a solo musician versus the rewards and merits of performing with a full band.

There was so much here we had to split it into two shows, so stay tuned next week for more with Perry (including how we all ruined a wedding together)!

Andy, Brandon, and Bethany will be performing at Tidball's in Bowling Green on Wednesday, September 28th for part of #JuJuJam (a week long fundraiser for 12-year-old Ju Wooldridge who is currently fighting leukemia). Brandon will also be speaking about podcasting at the Warren County Public Library for their DIY Festival on Saturday, September 24th! Be at the Bob Kirby Branch down Scottsville Road in Bowling Green, KY around 11 AM and find Brandon in Kirby Room 3. There are other great, free presentations happening all day.

Next week we'll return with a full "friends of the family" episode to meet Lexington's Perry Ritter, a young solo artist who also performs with Sempervivi on second guitar. We'll learn more about his solo material, how he hooked up with Derek for the next Sempervivi record, and how we might have ruined a wedding at last week's East Bridge festival in Owensboro.

Soon after that, we'll be introducing you to Bethany Pedigo, the newest member of the Bad Apple Records family! We're sneaking in a lot at the crack of midnight this year, so stay tuned...

  • Like Baseball Cards (Updates with Brandon)
Brandon gives an update on his hand surgery and encourages anyone with similar symptoms to not put off seeking treatment (be it physical therapy or corrective surgery). We've scheduled a couple of calls with other musicians who have had similar issues they had to overcome in order to keep playing music. We'll be sharing their stories in future episodes.

We'd also like to thank everyone for attending the online premier of our music video for "Open Hands" by Sempervivi a couple of weeks back! Remember, the single greatest thing you can do for our artists is share our content. Music, blog entries, podcast episodes (maybe not this one, lol) or anything else. Share it with your friends and leave comments. That helps so much more than most of you realize, so we'd really like to lay out that challenge and thank everyone for the help so far!

So much more to come, so stay tuned here each week...

  • Not a Quiet Place Anymore (Interview w/ Lisa Maiden of the Daviess County Public Library)
A couple of weeks back, Brandon played the Daviess County Public Library for one of their "Coloring Club" events, something Why They Came and Taylor from Wintering have also played. Afterward, Brandon got to chat with Information Services and Library Associate Lisa Maiden about the Coloring Club, other events at the DCPL, and why it's so important for local libraries to support local art.

The Daviess County Public Library has been really good to us over the years, so we hope you'll give this "friends of the family" episode a listen, and support your local library!

  • Is That a Sasquatch on Your Leg? (Mayweather Interview with Brandon and Andy)
Brandon and Andy sit down in the Dick Finger Landing, where it all started in episode one, to interview two young men of the same name from an up and coming indie rock trio that you need to hear called Mayweather!

Would you ask your Mom to sing Shaggy's "It Wasn't Me" in church? What if you were only 5 years old? If you had to deliver pizza to a house "with a white camper out front" but it turns out there are three... how would you know which to check first? Why would someone piss in the only bottled drink while broke down in Chicago? What is Padre Land? Was Abraham Lincoln really a liar? These stories and more in this "friends of the family" episode of our weekly label podcast.
