October 8th, 2021, we had a shock! About 9:00 a.m., a little-known species was discovered on the beach near Los Frailes in Baja Sur. It was a crocodile, and though it was already dead, it was fresh; its temperature reading was perfect and complete.

Pisces 35′ Valerie with Captain Roberto Sandez, aka “El Jefe,” were killing it this week. This boat had a 100% Catch Success Rate in five days of fishing. They had five billfish released, including a 250-pound blue marlin, a striped marlin, and a sailfish. Plus, 14 dorado, 25 yellowfin tuna (20 to 60-pounds each), and this nice wahoo yesterday. No wonder El Jefe is considered one of the “best in the business” and has been a Captain with Pisces for 33 years.

The federal health ministry has named our Southern Baja state as one of four with very low risk of Covid-19 contagium. As of Friday, there were only 48 positive cases in Los Cabos and 3% of hospital beds – both public and private – were occupied with Covid patients. Restrictions might be reduced this Tuesday when the state’s health commission meets. Hoooray!

Hurricane Olaf hit the Los Cabos resort area, forcing around 20,000 tourists to stay inside their hotels. "The State Council of Civil Protection of BCS canceled dozens of flights," said Lilzi Orcí, president of the Los Cabos Hotels Association, "However," she continued, "no deaths were reported."

The cow-sized yellowfin tuna were in the count. The charter fleet and private boats found some smaller yellowfin tuna a bit farther offshore, leading into September, which shaped up to be a hot month for fishing.
