Thanks for joining me on Episode 1! This episode is all about my inspiration to start this podcast.
I believe we have a global problem of being overworked. An overwhelming amount of people report feeling burnt-out, anxious, and depressed; most of it is revolved around their careers. Many employers do not respect boundaries, and they continually prioritize continuous work and productivity above all else - especially people's personal health and wellness. What is even worse is that a lot of cultures actually glorify overworking and burn-out, and many people wear it as a badge of honor (especially in the United States). This issue is literally killing people (scientific evidence proves it - there are 750,000 people who perish from stress-induced illnesses each year, directly related to the workplace).
Unfortunately, I know the feeling of burn-out all too well. I will be delving into my personal battles with corporate America and how it negatively affected my physical and mental health. I will also be talking about how I discovered and explored meditation and spirituality during one of the darkest and most draining times in my professional career, and how I gathered the strength to finally say "enough is enough" and make some drastic changes in my life.
We can so easily fall into a trance with our careers. It is no wonder that so many people do, because we are constantly bombarded with this "hustle-and-grind" culture that treats people like machines, constantly raising the bar and wanting more from us. The carrot of success, validation, and money is dangled in front of us...but all of those come at what cost?
Meditation is all about being present, recognizing and regulating negative emotions, and becoming more in-tune with ourselves and others. It can help snap us out of trance in our personal lives, so why not apply it to our work lives?
Join me now and in the future for conversations around this topic. We will discuss topics surrounding workplace anxieties and how to remain present in a difficult work atmosphere. I will also occasionally introduce guided meditative reflections to promote a fresh headspace for attaining a healthy work-to-life balance.
