1:17:30 - Omar’s Epilogue (Easter Egg from Episode #26: The Story of Inspectah Deck's Missing Verse from Tupac's 'Got My Mind Made Up')
STORY: Daz Dillinger produced 5 of 27 tracks on Tupac’s All Eyez On Me double album. Tha Dogg Pound MC/producer was close w/ Tupac at Death Row Records. The blockbuster achieved diamond certification, w/ one contribution: “Got My Mind Made Up,” on which Daz and DPG partner Kurupt would appear w/ verses. Also featured Redman and Method Man, at a time when Death Row Records was notorious for keeping albums entirely in-house. The Def Jam Record artists weren't the only planned features. Lady Of Rage, then Death Row artist & Meth’s Wu-Tang Clan band-mate Inspectah Deck recorded verses for the track.
In the album version, Deck can be heard on background vocals, per Daz Dillinger: "It originally had Lady Of Rage, Inspectah Deck, Method Man, Redman, me, and Kurupt. Why I think they still kept Inspectah Deck’s vocals in there a little bit is because the recording was done on ADAT’s. There was probably three ADAT’s. I put the beat on one. On the second tape, it had all of our vocals on there. Now the third tape, I must’ve had Inspectah Deck on there. But they didn’t have the third tape. That’s why you only heard his background vocals.” As for Lady of Rage, after the DPG track became a Tupac track, she didn't want her verse to be included due to a "dude's competition." She was also said to be beefing w/ Death Row Records at the time.
Inspectah Deck Lyrics:
I set the mic in flames, my name's INS the Rebel
Murder one style, smash piles straight to pebbles
Mental terrorist, specialist at this
Menacing lyricist, leave crews defenseless
Can't design landmines, lick off like nines
To paralyze everything, ears ring like doorknobs
Heads start to turn like police who pass
Hear the blast, my crew bust through like tear gas
Fuck a mask, we laced in place like the Marshall
Sparkle, like live but harder than tarvue
Wreck this rhyme, start relentless, roughest
And fuck up the party for you paying motherfuckers
Once I commence for you ladies and gents
I kick rhymes, sharper than barbwire fence
The live and direct, from Killah Hill Project
Staten Island, New York, you can't help but to hawk
Lay it on your dental, that's if you want it hostile
Sounds so underground I write my rhymes on fossil
Dudes like this, force me to get you open
Lyrically wet you up, until you soaking
