Sometimes we have special encounters with God in special places.  For the psalmist, the temple in Jerusalem was that special place.  But what if you can't make it there?  What then?  That's the dilemma of the psalmist.

Final words as we complete our study on the book of Mark and transition...

Three days after Jesus' burial, several of his female followers make the entirely unexpected discovery that the tomb is empty.  The story ends on a note of 'fear'.  The reader is left wondering, 'What happened next?"  I guess you could say we're part of the answer to that question, eh?

Mark packs a lot of drama into his account of Jesus' crucifixion.  It reads like an eye-witness account.  The highlight comes with the tearing of the temple curtain.  It's an action-packed account of God working out our salvation through his son.  There are at least a dozen individual elements to this account.  Can you list them? 

Jesus' trial before Pilate reveals a possible 'escape' crucifixion.  The reader might find themselves secretly hoping Jesus will get a reprieve.  But he doesn't.  A higher Purpose seems at work insuring all possible exits are blocked!  Are we good with that?

We've all had experiences where we felt we'd seriously under-performed.  Like we really sucked.  This is exactly what happened with Jesus' own disciples during Passover week.  They did the unthinkable.  They said the unexpected.  If there's any comfort to be gleaned from the failures of others, then come expecting to be comforted as we explore this story of failure.  And don't be surprised if there are also hints of hope.

Food was a big part of the ancient Passover Festival.  And one of the main meals was the Passover meal.  As it turns out, this meal was Jesus' last supper with his disciples before he died, and it became the basis for what we today call the Lord's Supper.  How did that happen?"  And why does it matter?
