  • The Commish,The Trust and The Holy War
With Lisa on a well-earned vacation in Florida, Travis Tate steps in for a full episode of co-hosting duties along with Brian and John.
First off, in light of a crazy injury to Kansas City Royals pitcher Brian Flynn, we chat about some of the wackiest off the field and by the field injuries.
Then we take a closer look at the one of the least popular positions in all of sports – the Commissioner. Why do NBA commissioners seem to have a better reputation than the commissioners of the NHL, NFL and MLB? Who have actually been the most successful? How did NHL commissioner Gary Bettman hold on to power after helping to shut down an entire season? What is Bud Selig’s legacy? Does anybody like Roger Goodell?
Next Travis takes us through the new legacy trust that officially owns the Utah Jazz. It’s a fairly complicated arrangement that seeks to keep the Jazz in Utah for the next 10,000 years and also keep ownership aligned with the Miller family who owned the team and now run the trust. Disclaimer: Travis is not a legal scholar, but he sure does a good job explaining things.
    RIVALRY:
We stay in the great state of Utah for this week’s rivalry talk: The Holy War between the University of Utah and Brigham Young University. It’s been going on for quite some time, and one of the best games is remembered for the The Kaneshiro Doink. Plus, Travis explains why they skipped the annual basketball game in 2016.
    STATUS UPDATE:
John discusses the young phenom in California who scored 92 points in a high school game but didn’t really feel like he earned them.
Travis brings up a new 3 on 3 professional basketball league that will feature former NBA players, including former Illini great Brian Cook.
Brian was excited about the start of spring training and wanted to chat about the possible offensive bounce back of Jason Heyward. Apparently he plays for the Chicago Cubs.
We'll be back with a brand new episode in a couple of weeks. Until then, follow us @bndwgnpdcst on Twitter to get the latest and/or to tell us about your favorite weird player injury.
