improv musings

Ever since I quit obsessing about bridge construction, my efforts have turned to solo performances at different venues and helping several local bands with sound reinforcement and recording services. During this time, I've managed to accumulate quite an array of mixers, microphones, & other audio gear, either through purchase or because my friends know I hate for anything to go into the landfill and give me stuff they no longer need. I'm working with a newly formed Americana band in Leander, TX called Mason Creek and, two weeks ago, we got together to record some sample tracks to use to promote their band. This is a track that I recorded using 2 Russian large diaphragm Oktave condenser mics that were given to me by a friend. There's no banjo in this tune but I thought it was a neat little tune. I set the mics up in an X-Y stereo configuration and use two of the Aux channels in a Soundcraft Ui-16 wireless mixer to make this recording. I also recorded it in the built-in recorder on the mixer but I thought the condenser mic version was the best.

This isn't a banjo piece. It's about an old fiddle player...I just had to do it!
