This version of Wolf Creek is from Harvey "Pappy" Taylor (b.1894), recorded in 1974. Slowed down from the original, it makes a pretty piece in fDGCD tuning. DOI stands for Dear Old Illinois, a compilation of songs and fiddle tunes by Garry and Steve Harrison and Jo Burgess. Wolf Creek is the old-time Tune of the Week for 3/13/20.

A fiddle tune often played by fiddler James Bryan. This multitrack recording is a "skeleton" version of the tune [just can't hit all the fiddle 8th notes anymore] and features medlody banjo and fiddle in the first round and throughout, guitar starting with latter part of round one, and bass and lightly played clawhammer rhythm starting in the second round. Earbuds improve audibility of all the parts.

I've loved this tune ever since hearing Mary Z Cox play it. I don't know where Iearned my unique B part, but with Shenandoah Falls as the Tune of the Week for 3/6/20, I decided to learn the more traditional B part, played the second time through here.

this Johnny Cash song has been covered by a lot of folks including Flatt & Scruggs..I used to do it a lot at dance gigs because it makes a pretty good 2-step dance song...

Inspired by the B H O discussion on playing the "Quill", I tried improvise my own, from smoothie straws.

Better than nothing, but not by much!
