  • Adoniram Judson
For episode 29 of the "50 Baptist You Should Know" Series, we will discuss the Congregationalist-turned-Baptist missionary, Adoniram Judson.
While in Burma, war with Britain would put him in prison, where his wife, Ann sacrificed to feed and take care of him.  He was released when the Burmese needed a translator, but the effects of the situation on his wife and child would take their lives.
Judson married Sarah Bordman who would pass away while on the ship headed back to England.
His third wife Emily would challenge New England to continue his legacy for missions after his death in 1850.
Judson finished translating the Bible into the Burmese language, including the prerequisite of having to write down their language in a dictionary.  He paved the way for an astounding 3,700 Baptist churches in Myanmar today!

  • Sinking in the Mire
    Sinking in the Mire
    Jeremiah 38
Opening thought: The prophet Jeremiah had been obedient to the call of God upon his life. He had been faithful to preach the message that God wanted him to preach and now Jeremiah finds himself standing in the bottom of a pit looking up at the blue sky overhead wondering where he had gone wrong. Have you ever been there? The bottom of a pit, looking up, sinking in mire wondering how your world had fallen out from beneath you?
    I. A study of the word "mire"
    Mire, 8
    Clay, 3
    Dirt, 2
    The slough of despond
II. The sources of mired living
     The mire of unbelief
     The mire of sin
    The mire of suffering
III. The solution to miry circumstances
    Christ is the answer
“The Solid Rock” – A hymn story
    Helps for resting on Christ
    1. For salvation: John 24
    2. For sin: Romans 6, 8; Hebrews 4
    3. For suffering: Philippians 1:6
    Stress Test
    By Deborah Ann
    Today God gave me,
    a spiritual stress test
to see if my soul . . .
    could remain at rest.
    So He sent to me,
    a hand-wringing situation
to see if my heart . . .
    could handle the agitation.
    He wanted to know,
    how I would proceed
    whether if to the strain
    I’d win or would concede.
It took all of His strength,
    for me not to succumb
for I knew I could trust Him
    with the power to overcome.
    Today God sent to me,
    a test that was stressing
    but I’m happy to say . . .
    I’m patiently resting!

  • Andrew Fuller
For episode 27 of the "50 Baptist You Should Know" Series, we will discuss the baptist preacher Andrew Fuller.
We have been trying to move chronologically through the years, but today, we will take a step back to the early 1700s.
Calvinism was rampant throughout the churches but Andrew Fuller began to present the Gospel freely to all men. Lest we think that these men had easy lives as God used them, Fuller's life was not without hardship.
Andrew endured the loss of eight of his eleven children and wife during the birth of his eleventh child.
Along with five other men, including Andrew Carey, these Baptist preachers started the Baptist Missionaries Society.
Please, follow along as we explore the life of Andrew Fuller and how God used this man.

  • The Lord’s Day is Holy
    A study of Jeremiah 17
Opening thoughts: It’s a pattern. It’s not only a pattern here at Fairhaven Baptist Church, it’s pretty much a pattern in churches everywhere in the United States and around the world. It has been the time-honored traditional pattern, and it goes back, and back, and back, and back, and back, and all the way back to the New Testament time. The people of God, the believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, have worshiped on Sunday. I have been a lot of places in the globe in my lifetime and I have seen this practiced. Let me list a few: Japan, Korea, Cambodia, Philippines, China, Kazakhstan, Russia.
Scriptural teaching for the holiness of the Lord’s Day
    The principle of sabbath rest
    The principle of Christian liberty
    The principle of Sunday worship
Some observations from our text in Jeremiah 17
God’s people tend to get lax in observance of the Lord’s Day - Jeremiah 17:19-22
Man’s work should stop on the Lord’s Day - Jeremiah 17:21-2
God’s blessing is on a people who honor the Lord’s Day - Jeremiah 17:24-26
God’s chastening is on a people who dishonor the Lord’s Day - Jeremiah 17:27
Some suggestions to keep the Lord’s Day holy in your home
The Lord’s Day should be a priority
In Revelation 1:10, the Apostle John says, “On the Lord’s Day I was in the Spirit.”
The Lord’s Day should not just be a fun day or a day off
The Lord’s Day should have some preparation
Take time on Saturday evening to pray and ask the Lord to speak to your heart on Sunday.
Don’t stay up late on Saturday night.
Try to limit your influence from the outside world on Sunday. (technology fast)
Spend some extra time in the morning, afternoon or evening in prayer and reflection on what was taught or on what God spoke to you about.
Have a special dinner Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon to make Sunday’s special for you and your family.
This is the day when Christ arose
    So early from the dead;
Why should I keep my eyelids clos'd,
And waste my hours in bed?
    Today with pleasure Christians meet,
To pray and hear the Word:
And I would go with cheerful feet
To learn thy will, O LORD.
    -Isaac Watts
