  • The Keynote of the Year (sermon 2121)
This sermon was first delivered on a Thursday evening in the March of the previous year, and then repurposed for reading on the first Lord's day of the year 1890. It is a delight to think that Spurgeon would preach something so sweet and substantial at an ordinary midweek service, and no surprise to find such a topic so well suited to the opening of a year. Here he develops the sermon with us, moving us on from point to point, thinking about the wonder of man blessing the God who blesses, the spirit in which we go about that happy work, the God whom we bless—that Jehovah who has made himself known to us in mercy—, and the self-awareness that we ought to exercise, as we address ourselves in the face of all discouragements within and without, to go on blessing the God of our salvation. Here is a preacher marked by simplicity of speech, plainness of address, and warmth of tone. Here we are stirred not just to think about what it means to bless the Lord, but to get involved with the business, and to get on with it, that the Lord shall not lack a witness to his majesty and mercy from us.

  • Capital Punishment: Should Executions Be Live Streamed?
Should executions be live streamed, and how should believers view capital punishment? In this episode of the Straight Truth Podcast, Dr. Josh Philpot and Pastor Richard Caldwell examine the debate regarding public executions through the lens of biblical justice. Prompted by the news of Nidal Hasan facing a firing squad, they discuss what the Bible says about the death penalty. Pastor Caldwell explains from Genesis 9 and Romans 13 that capital punishment upholds the value of human life and that God has ordained the government to wield the sword. They explore how swift justice serves as a deterrent, the difference between governmental retribution and personal vengeance, and why Christians can support just sentences while still praying for the salvation of the guilty.

  • October 24 - Read Through The Bible In A Year
Today's reading October 24 - In just 15-20 minutes a day, you can listen to the entire Bible read through in a year, and/or watch the Bible verses on the screen. Each day, you will hear some of the New Testament, some of the Old Testament, and some of Psalms or Proverbs. You will read through Psalms and Proverbs twice in the year. Today's reading is 2 Chronicles 7-8; Hebrews 2; and Psalm 115. You can get through the entire Bible in a year listening to it on the way to and from work each day. The elderly with bad eyesight can now see the Bible verses in large print right on the screen. Little children, just learning how to read, can now read along by seeing and hearing each word pronounced. Imagine little children accomplishing something that many adults never do even once in their lifetimes--reading through the entire Bible. Get a free printed copy of the Bible Reading Schedule at LibertyGospelTracts.com. The Books are read in chronological order, which really helps you to understand the order that things happened. We offer free certificates at the end of the year, for those who read through the entire Bible. Just write to us to request one. May God bless you as you read through all that God has written for us.
