Judges chapters 4–5 recount Israel's deliverance from twenty years of oppression under Jabin, king of Canaan, and his powerful army. As Deborah and Barak lead Israel into battle, the Lord makes clear that the victory belongs to Him: He draws the enemy into the place of battle, goes before His people, and delivers them from an army of 900 iron chariots. In this verse-by-verse study, we follow the events of the battle and the victory song of Deborah and Barak, considering both the willingness of some in Israel to hazard their lives and the unwillingness of others to come to their aid. Above all, these chapters point us to the Lord as the One who fights for His people and gives them deliverance.

This week on Wheat Among the Tares, we highlight the life and testimony of George Muller, the founder of a series of orphanages in Bristol, England in the 1800's. The uniqueness of this ministry was (and is) how God made manifest, through prayer and patience, his answers in meeting the needs of so many orphans through the years, and proving through this man and ministry that the Lord hears and answers prayer...the testimony of a faithful servant of prayer...
