General Secretary and Keynote speaker Lynn Green addresses those at Baptist Assembly '24. The address comes after our annual Ministers and Mission Workers commissioning ceremony, focusing on Acts 2:16-21.
No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: “In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. Even upon my slaves, both men and women, in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy. And I will show portents in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and smoky mist. The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the coming of the Lord’s great and glorious day. Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
"Here we are, gathered together in one place, reading scripture about the first disciples, who were also gathered together in one space." Lynn Green opens Baptist Assembly '24 with an address which focuses on Acts 2:1-15, reminding us about the importance on waiting and praying. A theme which Baptists Together has been focusing on over the 1st quarter of this year.
Professor Anthony Reddie, Professor of Black Theology, University of Oxford and Director of the Centre for Religion and Culture at Regent's Park College presented his lecture title 'From Sam Sharpe to Black Lives Matter: The Continued Struggle for Black Agency and Self-Determination'.
The lecture took place on Wednesday 18 October at the Gilbert Scott Lecture Theatre, Whitelands College, University of Roehampton, London and this is the recording. Wale Hudson-Roberts, Baptists Together Justice Enabler introduces Anthony and the lecture.
The Sam Sharpe lectures seek to broaden and advance the legacy of Sam Sharpe by exploring subjects in mission, race, class, and injustice. They have become an important fixture in the calendar of community events marking Black History Month. The best of them have sought to create a community event where scholars, social activists and religious leaders share their vision for a just society. This short video explains more.
Join Jodie Thorpe, Mike Lowe and Clare Hooper from our Children, Young People and Families Round Table and Linda Hopkins who is presenting the 2023 Whitley Lecture.
