“Based on a True Story” is a dark comedy on Peacock starring Kaley Cuoco as Ava Bartlett and Chris Messina as her husband Nathan. Tom Bateman stars as Matt, “The Westside Ripper” serial killer. The trio did a true crime podcast together in Season 1. In season two, Ava and Nathan are juggling life as new parents three months into parenthood. Ava is focused on balancing family life with her career, planning to return to real estate while resisting her true-crime obsession. Meanwhile, Nathan is busy training private tennis clients. But when a string of new murders surfaces, Ava is drawn back into the mystery. Could Matt be behind the killings? Is Tory, now romantically involved with Matt, at risk?
