Basic Bible Podcast

This is our tenth episode exploring the attributes of God. This week Ray Jewell and I chat about something we are not only incredibly thankful for, but daily dependent on - the faithfulness of God. God is always faithful to his children, even when they are not faithful to Him.

This is week nine in our series on the Attributes of God. Our old friend Ray Jewell stops by as we chat about the power of God. Is god really all-powerful? How far does that extend? Are there any limits to what God can do and how does that effect me personally? We'll talk about these topics and more on this episode.

In this special bonus episode, Ray Jewell and I chat about a newly released book we had the pleasure of reading. A War of Loves by David Bennett is the story of a young man who came out as a homosexual but years later would come to embrace the gospel of Christ. The book is a brutally honest look at his life and attempts to reconcile his sexuality and his faith as he seeks to find his ultimate identity in Christ. Ray and I discuss what we liked about the book and few issues of disagreement we found. Please note the publisher did send us free copies of the book for the purpose of an honest review.

We are commanded to be holy as God is holy, but what does it mean to be holy? Some get nervous about any talk of holiness as sometimes it leads to legalism or unattainable standards of perfection. So how is God holy and in what way ought to reflect that holiness ourselves? That's out topic this week on the podcast as we continue our series on the attributes of God. Joining us this week is Dr. J.V. Fesko who presently serves at Westminster Seminary California as Academic Dean and Professor of Systematic and Historical Theology.

As we continue our series on the Attributes of God, this week we tackle the issue of immutability - or does God ever change? How about during prayer, can I ever change the mind of God. Does God ever change His mind? Joining us is Phil Johnson, the executive director of Grace to You, editor of John MacArthur's books and one of the authors of the Pyromaniac Blog.

This month is pastor appreciation month so we interrupt our series on the attributes of God for a chat between Ray Jewell and I about just how important the pastor is to the life of the church. We also interviewed several pastors to ask them when they feel most appreciated by their church.

This is our first attempt at a new monthly feature we're calling Reining in Ray. This podcast will feature Ray Jewell and I commenting on the questions and topics you the listeners have submitted. No subjects are off limits! In this trial run, we discuss the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings, my idea of a theologically-themed restaurant and a question about Bible commentaries.
