The book of Hebrews is rich in encouragement. Believers are encouraged to grow and mature in their faith. Once there is a strong foundation in the basics, then it is time to move on and mature in that knowledge. God's purpose for you is unchangeable -- his desire is for you to know Him. This gives you encouragement to hold fast to your hope, the anchor of your soul.

Have you ever thought that Jesus could not possibly understand how you feel or what you are going through? Hebrews plainly states that Jesus is our High Priest, he sympathizes with our weakness, and invites us to his throne of grace where we will receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Jesus is our priest forever, appointed by God, and we can trust him to meet us in our need.

We who believe enter God's rest by faith. When we enter we rest from our works just as he rested from his. Jesus sympathizes with our weakness and invites us to his throne of grace. It is there we will receive mercy and find grace in our time of need.

Jesus Christ is superior to Moses. He is the one sent from God and the high priest of our confession. Jesus is worthy of more glory than Moses, as the builder of a house has more honor than the house. Jesus is the builder and Moses is a member of the house. Moses testified to the things that were to be spoken later about and by Jesus. Jesus is over God's house. Under the New Covenant, we are God's house and Jesus is firmly established as the head. All of this is to help us recognize that the New Covenant is superior to the Old.

Why should we pay such close attention to this salvation we've been offered in Jesus? Because knowing how great a gift you have been given changes your life! Jesus became a human being and experienced suffering and death so that we might become his family. Now we see Jesus crowned in glory because he conquered death. We too conquer death when we come to Him by faith. That's the good news of Hebrews!

Today we look at Jesus. The writer of Hebrews takes great care to teach us who Jesus is and why he is superior. He is the creator and master of angels. They worship and serve him. His words carry more weight than the words of angels. There is no greater messenger than Jesus and there is no greater message that the gospel.

Hebrews is one of the most compelling books in the Bible. Some say it's the pinnacle. It paints a picture of Christ like no other book in the Bible. We are limiting today's broadcast to the first 4 verses (Hebrews 1:1-4) of the first chapter because they summarize the entire book. No one knows who the human author was of this book; certainly we know that it was authored by the Holy Spirit. This will be a fascinating in-depth study.

Peter writes: "His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence ... " 2 Peter 3, 9, 12-15 So why are so many believers not experiencing life if full? Peter states it's because he has " ...forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins". If we don't understand forgiveness we're never going to grow in grace. We need to get the fundamentals right.
