Chapter 8 is a pivot point in the book of Hebrews. In chapter 7 we learned that when there is a change in the priesthood there must be a change in the law. Today we look at the new law - the New Covenant - that Jesus ushered in. Jesus is the Son of God, far superior to any other messenger; therefore, his message is far superior to any other. The Old Covenant has been set aside and has given way to the New Covenant.

Often Hebrews 6:4-6 is a troubling passage for believers. The writer of Hebrews is exhorting his audience to mature in the faith. He points out that they are still living on the milk of the gospel when they should have matured in the solid food of the Word of God. As we mature, our powers of discernment will be honed and we will be able to discern good from evil and walk the path of righteousness. God's desire for all of us is to go on to maturity - to grow in the grace of God.

Hebrews 4:14-Hebrews 5:10 is a beautiful passage and is full of hope for every believer. It's personal and reaches in deep to the soul, bringing assurance and comfort. Jesus is our high priest. He understands what we are going through and we can turn to him in our time of need. In him, we will find grace and mercy in our time of need.

We who believe enter God's rest by faith. When we enter we rest from our works just as he rested from his. Jesus sympathizes with our weakness and invites us to his throne of grace. It is there we will receive mercy and find grace in our time of need.

Hebrews lifts up Jesus like no other book in the New Testament and sets his message apart as the final word from God to us. If we really want to know God's desire for us we need to pay attention to Jesus. We need to listen to Him, listen to the message and give ourselves over to that message, and receive it in it's fullness. Today we look at the beginning of Chapter 3 and the truth that we share in a heavenly calling.

Why should we pay such close attention to this salvation we've been offered in Jesus? Because knowing how great a gift you have been given changes your life! Jesus became a human being and experienced suffering and death so that we might become his family. Now we see Jesus crowned in glory because he conquered death. Therefore we are brothers and sisters with Him. That's the good news of Hebrews!
