Wang Laoshi takes her American friends Elita and Eka to lunch at a Chinese restaurant. Do the food items they order sound appealing to you?

  1. kǒuwèi (口味): taste, flavor
  2. là de (辣的): hot spicy stuff
  3. xián de (咸的): salty stuff
  4. suān de (酸的): sour stuff
  5. tián de (甜的): sweet stuff
  6. zhū ròu (猪肉): pork meat
  7. jī ròu (鸡肉): chicken meat
  8. niú ròu (牛肉): beef meat
  9. yáng ròu (羊肉): lamb meat
  10. pàomó (泡馍): a specialty of Shannxi cuisine. It is a hot stew of chopped-up steamed leavened flat bread, cooked in lamb broth and served with lamb meat, sometimes substituted with beef.
  11. bōluó (菠萝): pineapple
  12. bōluó gūlǎo ròu (菠萝咕咾肉): sweet and sour pork/ chicken with pineapple. A popular Cantonese dish normally made with pork.
  13. jīdàn (鸡蛋): chicken egg
  14.  chǎo fàn (炒饭): fried rice
  15.  fúwù yuán (服务员): waiter; attendant (The translation may sound rude to English speakers, but it is an accepted way to address the servers in China.)

    Wang: 好。爱丽,你也喜欢辣的吗?

    Wang: 那,你们喜欢什么肉,猪肉,鸡肉,还是牛羊肉?

    Elita: 我喜欢羊肉。

    Wang:那,给你点一个羊肉泡馍。艾玉珂,你喜欢什么肉?

    Eka: 我喜欢鸡肉。

    Wang: 好,你能吃菠萝吗?

    Eka: 我喜欢菠萝。

    Wang: 那给你点一个菠萝咕咾肉,是酸酸甜甜的。可以吧?

    Eka: 可以,可以。

    Wang: 好,那,我们要一个羊肉泡馍,一个菠萝咕咾肉,一个鸡蛋炒饭。服务员,我们点菜!
