This is just another intro to topics that will be covered during in these series. Financial Wellness was recognized as a critical pillar to holistic wellness during my program series focused on the eight dimensions of wellness. When it comes to mental health financial struggles can completely dominate a persons life. Taxes and understanding personal finances should be an essential topic but it isn't. I'm encouraging everyone to treat their own finances with as much care they would a job for someone else. I also believe that how and what we spend our money has a huge impact on our overall wellness. When I have something substantial I will update the website! https://www.basicsinliving.com/
One of the things that can throw off my day is misplacing things. I'm sure this is not unique. I also am at a loss for what things I own or items in my house. The lack of planning leads to a slow bleed of finances. Not organizing my own home also limits my mental state always feeling like something is incomplete. Now that many of us including myself are working from home staying organized is more important than ever. Our spaces are becoming blurred and we have had to readjust and have likely accumulated more things than we need. I have been slowly building an archive of essential items and luxury items that make the home space as functional as possible. When I have a more complete list I will post it to the website! https://www.basicsinliving.com/
This track is another one off the cuff. My tracker arrived a few days early and I will recap these topics starting on Tuesday next week in detail. Recovery outside of taking a break or rest has never been explained well. It does seem that sleep is the most important element. The second is staying hydrated. I'm making sure to keep track of poor habits that have prevented sleeping through the night. These include drinking caffeine in the afternoon and eating food late at night that causes indigestion. This coupled with regular stretching is something I am attempting to regulate. The tracker will provide some unique insights into my sleep cycle. When I have something tangible I will update my website!
This is a pretty incomplete track. Basically I'm talking about how what we eat has a relationship to how we feel. I'm not sure if this is true and at the most basic level I am adding fermented food into my diet and regulate a few other items to see if I feel any changes. I'll continue to work on this and if I come up with a good chart I will make that available and continue to update that as I learn more.
When it comes to food I have never planned things out in advance. If I was hungy I would eat. If I wanted to try going healthy I might just by random vegetables or reduce down to one meal a day. The biggest challenge is figuring out what to buy. For the past couple of weeks I have ben trying sorting out different staples for a plant based diet and how that plays out financially. My goal is to make sure that I'm eating in relation to energy expended. Portion control is important to eat an adequate amount not too little or too much. I also want to make sure everything I eat benefits my body. This may take some time but when I get a good chart together I will share it on my website! https://www.basicsinliving.com/
Instead of winging it when it comes to exercise. I'm trying to make sure to plan ahead. Right now I am fortunate to live in a fairly central area. I have identified three primary locations for exercising outdoors. One for regular cardio. It is a small mountain and a roundtrip from my house to the top is five miles. There is a school that is about 2 miles away. It has an open track for when I want to test my speed. The final one is a park a couple blocks from my house. It is a great place to warm up. A loop is about a mile. There is also a jungle gym set where I can test against my bodyweight. As I create an intentional exercise plan and schedule for the next 15 days my focus will be on habit building around cardio and bodyweight. I will make sure to post when I have something sorted out. https://www.basicsinliving.com/
My exploration started while working with a neurology based movement instructor. We were working on his brand. During this time we spent a lot of time discussing flow and deciding on appropriate goals for students. A big moment for us was the conclusion that everyone needs to feel comfortable in their own body. Taking this concept a little bit further I am looking at actions our bodies are meant to do. They include running, jumping, lifting, gripping, hanging, and flexibility. I'm making a shift over to focus on bodyweight exercises in preparation and creating a chart for what to metrics to track. At the moment I'm looking at endurance and strength. This will be in addition to other items I can track with a smartwatch. When I have something comprehensive I will share it on my website. https://www.basicsinliving.com/
Being superficial was discouraged in my home. It does have its' time and place. The easiest thing to measure is our weight. However, most people will tell you as fat is lost you gain muscle that number might change slowly. I've decided to start tracking two things related to this. My weight and using a fabric measurer my waist, middle, and chest. Thinking back on the past few years as my body has fluctuated it has contributed to an extra spend on clothes. Because I could never really afford to do this it always meant having to get something cheap. I'm curious how tracking this measurement will impact my overall financial wellness and health. https://www.basicsinliving.com/
I wanted to take a look at the total experience. One area that well known fitness class brands focus on is the music. It is no surprise even well known songs are remixed. There is a relationship between bpm in music and our heart rate. Picking the right music for different types of workout is essential. Doing some quick research I found a number of benefits but the one that was not listed I found most relevant was keeping my mind from wandering. I am going to continue looking into this and seeing out this impacts my performance over time. I'm still over a week out from getting my Fitbit and being able to check key analytics. For the time being everything is preparatory. I'll keep you posted as I look into all aspects of wellness!
This is a health and wellness focused podcast. The goal is to understand how to improve the avatar we were given at birth. We understand when we are sick and when we feel fantastic. I have had the privilege of talking with hundreds of wellness professionals and I was never given a clear answer to a question. What is the baseline for being healthy?
By exploring all dimensions of wellness through a financial lens I'm hoping to provide something educational, accessible, and valuable. Please stay tuned! (Website Under Construction)
