Basketball Injuries

Episode 9. Basketball injuries are a bit easier to recover from but still can impact your performance and your body. 

1:00- Ankle sprains. One of the most common injuries in basketball. Most players will get one at some point. 
2:38- Inversion sprains. repetitive injury to the ankle can impact you longer. Important to do the RIC method (rest & ice)
3:42- Taping ankles and how that can help
4:59- Kneecap injuries. Once you are limping...stop playing because it can get worse. It's important to reduce the stress in the knee. 
7:14- Thigh bruising. Happens frequently but not much you can do to prevent or treat it. Important to note that repetitive bruising can impact how you carry yourself. 
9:04- Knee stability. Ligament issues. Landing wrong can cause this. Women are more likely to get ACL injuries. We explain the q-angle.
11:00- Jammed fingers.  Routine injury. Common fix is to tape fingers together. 
12:00- Facial injuries. Elbow to the face. This type of injury can make you more timid. Important to be evaulated for concussion. 
13:00- Dr. Pat and Dr. Tim talk their history of injuries. Dr. Dooley shares his story of tearing his achilleas tendon.  
Important to do lots of stretching before beginning any sport.
15:40- Stress fractures and proper nutrition.
