Spring is almost here, but cold temps and snow haven’t slowed down the fishing at Lake Guntersville! In this episode of Guntersville Grass Roots, we chat with Captain Jason Whitehead of Alabama Elite Fishing about current lake conditions, tournament results, and what’s working best on The Big G.

Jason, fresh off an ABT 100 victory, breaks down how the lake is transitioning, where the fish are staging, and what baits are a must-have right now—A-rigs, lipless cranks, jerkbaits, and minnows are all in play. We also discuss grass conditions, water levels, and what anglers should watch out for with strong current and floating debris.

Plus, we preview upcoming tournaments like the SPRO Hard Bait Tournament, Freedom Marine Open, and Bass Cash Bash, which kicks off March 1st with tagged fish swimming all over the lake!

In the first 2025 episode of the Guntersville Grass Roots podcast, we sit down with Grant Smith, one-half of the winning team from the Rat-L-Trap Tournament at Lake Guntersville. Grant and his partner, Bryan Sharp, topped a near 240-boat field with an impressive 26.68 lbs, edging out second place by just over a pound. Grant shares the strategies behind their win and recounts the story of landing their 7.75 lb giant while his partner was mid-sandwich!
