  • Episode #34 | A Massive Batch β€” 9 Estate Pipes, Including a Perfect 9-9-9

This is a bigger episode than usual β€” instead of the usual five, I go through all nine restored estate pipes from a single batch, all picked up from a seller named Per. Since they're too many for one normal rundown, I decided to power through the whole box in one go and rate the looks and condition on each.

The line-up runs from a flat-shanked Jeantet Jubile Canadian and a Vauen 8261 brandy to a beautifully restored Stanwell Royal Briar 353 and a Vauen designed by C. Barrontini for Huber Munchen β€” the last of which is the first pipe I've ever scored a perfect 9-9-9 on. From there it's a massive Chap Filtre B-900, a Georg Jensen with a sanded-off stummel stamp, a long, heavily rusticated Italian Gasparini, a mystery Jean-Claude with an unusual near-freehand panel shape, and a huge Butz-Choquin Corrida to close it out. As always, I assess condition, talk through the shapes and smoking appeal, and assign each pipe an ID for the collection catalogue β€” all nine carry the "PR" batch identifier for this lot.

    Timestamps:

    02:11 Jeantet Jubile 69-13 (34-977-1PR)

    04:45 Vauen 8261 (34-972-2PR)
    06:50 Stanwell 353 (34-998-3PR)
    09:46 Vauen C. Barrontini 86 (34-999-4PR)
    13:39 Chap Filtre B-900 (34-972-5PR)
    16:23 Georg Jensen (34-778-6PR)
    18:18 Gasparini Camillo 207 (34-998-7PR)
    20:35 Jean-Claude Panel (34-977-8PR)
    24:01 Butz-Choquin Corrida 1508 (34-987-9PR)

That Vauen / Huber Munchen piece is the first one to ever top my scoring in all three categories β€” let me know if you've come across that maker/retailer combination before. And if anyone recognizes the Jean-Claude's shape, I'd love to know what it's called.
