  • IT Layoffs : The shit those people didn't tell about you!
Just when I want to be left alone to deal with my shit, some uncle comes along and gives gyan on how this too shall pass. Especially those who pretend to know my situation and offer impractical, random advice. That's what I thought when I was 30.
The good news is, you don't need to worry about those uncles anymore. They are dead or gone.
Now you have new ones. Who knows shit. They've been through it and learned how to deal with it. Even if I can cheer up 1 person going through tough shit, I'd die happy knowing at least I tried doing something about it instead of quietly quitting on them.
So, If you're feeling like that duck struggling to cross the river infested with snappy crocs, consider tuning in to this simple straight talk, BasTalk; it's about the shit no one tells you at work.  Despite the toothy crocs in the river, the duck crosses it. It might not look pretty and sound great, but it sure has some chutzpah.  Let's just duck it.

  • What's in store Season 4?

    And I'm back. It's Season 4!

BasTalk continues its journey in 2023 with a new season and episodes.

This year I have incorporated feedback from listeners and made subtle changes.

    1. Leadership Studio: executive interviews from top leaders globally.
    2. What they say vs. what they mean: episodes will now incorporate a little fun element.
    3. BasTalk on  LinkedIn Live, Swell, and, if time permits, on YouTube and Clubhouse.
    4.  More polls and interactive questions.
    5. Giveaways
    6. Meet and greets.
    7. Merch.
    8. As they say, mornings never show the day; I will circle back end of the year and assess how many of the above were achieved! :-)

But for now, let's get the show on the road.

In the first episode of S4, (which will release next week) we talk about ways to cope if layoffs have impacted you.

So make sure to tune in, share, and subscribe with those who care to listen patiently!

Happy new year dear listeners, BasTalk welcomes you to 2023.

      • Who checks the rejected resumes?

Do you need to be Master Shifu to hire a Dragon warrior? Do you have the necessary skill sets to identify the next big thing?

Or are you ignorant about it? Did you reject the top talent on the planet?

If there is so much of top talent available, why do we keep hiring bad ones?

Or if we are hiring top talent, why do we still hover around 20%+ attrition year over year?

If you are a business leader listening to this, have you ever audited your hiring managers' interview reports?

Why are they rejecting top candidates? Basis what? Merely mentioning not-a-good-fit or, worse, "rejected"  may cost your company a ton of money,

energy, and business disruption. Tune into this episode and then discuss with your team internally the steps they are taking to identify the "right top talent."

      • Manager Feedback Part 3

Being a people manager, you need to motivate the team to deliver the best performance, isn't it? Yet, despite best efforts, there are times when the team misses the goal. So you have a tough love conversation, a hard look at performance, and expect them to turn around.

But instead, you get a rude shock from the HRBP,  who walks up to you and has a tough-love conversation; the team does not trust you to lead them, says the iconic 360-degree anonymous feedback
        report.

On the other hand the HRBP has to be sure you are not that "incompetent" nincompoop leading many talented people in a high-performance organisation. Besides if the team is not responding to the manager, the manager must have a problem.

        What do you do?

Join me in this tricky conversation where I share insights on
        3 scenarios :

1 Addressing a team that does not take critical feedback well.

2 Addressing an individual who is likely to broadcast every piece of information you share as feedback to the rest of the organization playing the victim card.

3 How does it affect your perception as a people manager within the department or company?

Please share this slow-burn no, frill, simple straight talk who may need to hear this content.

        Let's dive in.
